Out Colorado-way, where they had less snow this winter than in New England, Denver Municipal Judge Bob Fullerton has moved up to the State District Court bench. Governor Love's first judicial appointee, Bob received his law degree from the University of Denver after graduating from Dartmouth.
Psychiatrist John Hume, who completed his undergraduate work at Haverford, will have covered half the globe professionally in the next two years. John got his M.D. from Penn, completed psychiatric training, and was until March on the staff and Clinical Director at Norristown (Pennsylvania) State Hospital. In April, he headed from Lemoore, Calif., to set up a psychiatric unit in a Naval Station Hospital. John is a Lieutenant Commander in the Naval Reserve. Next year he returns to Manila for two years.
Dave Sargent, who joined the H. J. Heinz Co. in Pittsburgh last September, has been named product manager for the company. Dave will develop marketing programs for beans, Minute Meals, chili con carne, chili beans, spaghetti, and macaroni products, and how he can think about all that food and stay as trim as the photo shows is the question. After Harvard Business School, Dave was with Scott Paper Co. and, more recently, Photex division of Textron, Inc., before going to "57 varieties." Dave, Anne and their two children live in Mt. Lebanon, Pa.
We seem to have our share of Demostheneses. (Never having taken Greek, I'm somewhat dubious about the plural.) Oberlin (Ohio) City Manager Dick Dunn has been discussing "Planning in Small Communities" before high school students and others in the Dayton area.
Berl Bernhard, Staff Director of the U.S. Civil Rights Commission, was back in Hanover in February to participate in a Public Service Conference. On the way back to Washington, Berl spoke in at least Topsfield. Mass. Reports have come in from Connecticut on Abdul Sheikh's lecture tour, mentioned earlier.
Alex Sarjeant, with wife and five children, has departed New England for Charlotte, N.C. The Pelton & Crane Company has promoted Alex from New York and New England sales representative to Assistant Sales Manager.
Dave Hilton is in the news again, this time for selling over $2,000,000 in life insurance last year. Kansas City's Howie Bissell was in Chicago this winter beating the drum for Kaiser Aluminum at a home builders' exhibition. Howie hopes to combine a trip East to the World's Fair in 1965 with attendance at Reunion.
It's not too early to start planning now for our Fifteenth, which comes up a year early in 1965. If you want Hanover to be more than a facade of buildings then, you'd better get out your checkbook. It's Alumni Fund time; and the College needs your dollars to make ends meet.
Al Karcher has finally owned up to the fact that he now has a four-line title: Assistant Sales Manager, Amateur Products, Northeastern Sales Division, Eastman Kodak Company. At least that's what his business card, with a New York City address, says. From the alleged rent, Al's apartment must be fabulous. For a reasonable consideration, I shall disclose his home location and telephone number.
The sun is shining on Joe McDonald. Not only has he been in West Palm Beach, Florida, since 1955 with the investment firm of Francis I. duPont Co. in that sunshine town, but word has just been received from the New York City headquarters that Joe has been named to manage the office. Joe joined the duPont organization after receiving his Tuck M.B.A. and serving three years with the U.S. Navy. He was in the first six-month training course for registered representatives given by duPont. Joe and wife June and their three sons live at 125 Gregory Place, West Palm Beach.
Now that the New York newspaper strike is finally over, we should have more news for you next month. Items from the clipping service should pick up. Nonetheless, we're always looking for news and photos directly from the '51 family. How about writing?
