Our annual pre-Harvard class luncheon, held at the Algonquin Club, Boston, on Friday, October 23 was a very enjoyable affair in spite of the fact that only six classmates were present. They were Art Chapin, Randall Cooke, Oliver Cromwell, Walt Powers,Herb Rainie, and your secretary. Our visitors were Roger Brown '05, Harold Niles '07 and Dr. Hill, Cromwell's son-in-law.
Our president, Walt Powers, presided and read many interesting items of people and events from a newspaper clipping printed during our undergraduate days. Herb Rainie told of his experience in trying to form a band and drilling the members how to play their instruments.
Our treasurer, Norm Russell and his son Robert, were absent for the first time that I can remember. Ned French was out of town and Thurlow Gordon wrote that he wanted very much to come but couldn't get away. Nat Leverone was delayed and did not reach Boston in time. However, I saw Martha and Nat at the game and they were the only 1906 people I saw.
On October 14, 1964 Nathaniel Leverone received a citation of merit from the Laymen's National Committee, Inc. for his many years of devoted service to the cause of Christianity. Senator Dirksen was so impressed by this richly deserved honor to Nat that he asked the Senate for unanimous consent to have this citation printed in the Congressional Record.
Following is the citation which was printed in the Record of September 29, "To Nathaniel Leverone, on behalf of what he has done in helping to further the cause of religious education and the fundamental principles of God's words, the Laymen's National Committee, Inc., therefore presents this citation of merit, not only in gratitude for his unselfish work for this committee, but also for a life-long devotion to bringing the goodness and kindness of the Almighty to a World that he knew could only survive through God." Ben H. Willingham, National Chairman, National Bible Week.
Helen Rix writes that her husband, John Burton Rix, died on August 8.
Elvira French has written the secretary a letter of thanks to the Class of 1906 for the beautiful floral tribute sent in memory of her husband, Charles French.
Birthdays in December: King Benton, Francis Childs, Ned French, and Edwin Warner.
Harriette and George Hoyt '07 rode in style to testimonial. See '07 notes.
