It was certainly heartwarming to see the Class of '44 lead all the rest in the latest Green Derby Alumni Fund interim statement. Phil Penberthy is going about this all wrong if he thinks it's possible to shirk the class agent's post.
Will Partridge, vice president and treasurer of Massachusetts General Life, was further honored by his company in his election to the Board of Directors. All these nice honors don't do much for the golf handicap, however. Bird, his wife Jean, and the four youngsters will be on hand June 19. Even some of our incurable duffers will have good shot at him on the links.
Mother's Day brought a bit of a surprise to Boog McLoud and his expectant spouse. Malcolm took Lydia to the doctor for a routine check-up late in the afternoon, was surprised when the doctor mildly suggested as a safety precaution that she go to the hospital for a few days. In the time it takes to park a car, order a turkey sandwich, and take a bite, he was a father. The baby, a son, arrived about four weeks ahead of schedule, scaled in at a good 4 lbs. 5 oz. and has practically outgrown his incubator. All doing well except the sire who forgot to finish his sandwich and has worried about it ever since.
Wayne Eves, president of Mid Continent Tab Card Co. of Omaha, was elected a member of the Dartmouth Alumni Council for a two-year term, beginning in July. He represents the Middlewestern states. His responsibilities on the council include nomination of alumni trustees, interviewing programs for prospective Dartmouth students, and, of course, the Alumni Fund Campaign. Wayne is also owner of the Marcotte Insurance Agency of Omaha. He's an active Republican, having served as president of the Young G.O.P. Club and as a National Committeeman from Nebraska. You'll see him in Hanover.
I must apologize to all the doctors in the class for my inability to make concise a medical report, but they'll perhaps appreciate what Bill Stahl is doing, as the rest of us are with the amount of money he was granted for his work. The American Cancer Society awarded Bill a $31,450 grant to study "The Phenomenon of Cell Trapping by Nodes of the Lymphatic System." Bill is assistant professor of surgery at the University of Vermont. You'll recall that he had been Chief of Surgery at the Danbury Hospital and, at the same time, maintained teaching and research connections in N. Y. C. Bill and his family will be at the reunion, too, and you can get a better idea of just what he's doing if you ask him.
Also, in the medical world, was the recent announcement of Br. Frank Behrle's appointment as chairman of the department of pediatrics at Seton Hall College of Medicine. Frank and his family are also among those who'll be on hand for reunion.
That grand gentleman of the grocery field, Mike Costa, has been named sales supervisor for Hannaford Bros. Company for the Northern Maine territory and is now in the process of moving the family to Bangor.
Just so you Goldwater Republicans know who to go after in the class tent about 3 A.M. when you think you've got the world problems solved, Win Turner is the new legislative assistant to Teddy Kennedy. He'll be on hand with Gloria and the kids. Any of you involved in monopolistic endeavours might go out of your way to be polite to Win. For the last three years, he's been a trial attorney in the anti-trust division of the Department of Justice and, obviously, has done splendidly. He knows more about what you're planning than you'd suspect. Just tell him how much money your company lost last year.
At least, take comfort that Clark MacGregor will be on hand as Master of Ceremonies and will be happy to protect you from Win.
Naval Commander Bob Gilford is now making his home in Alexandria and will be making the trek to Hanover. As is the case with Lt. Johnny Morse who is now settled in Silver Spring, Md.
