It's a pleasure to report to you that based on a random sampling of your classmates, you're not alone in the category of a stick-in-the-mud, over-zealous, super-conscientious (or possibly procrastinating) type who has to go- to the office on Saturdays. We're having a meeting of the Class executive committee in Hanover on the Washington birthday weekend and last Saturday I phoned a number of the gentlemen at their homes starting at 9 A.M. to confirm arrangements. In every instance, some sweet child answered and advised that "Daddy's gone to the office." Of course, if they'd worked that hard in Hanover they wouldn't be short-changing their weekends now.

Nonetheless, the Hanover Inn will host next week a congregation of these careworn, temple-flecked stalwarts. The purpose is to create a cornerstone for our 25th reunion plans, seven years hence. Among the Program plans was the ridiculous suggestion of a '44 hockey game; however, quite a number will be sneaking into town with their skis.

It's embarrassing to mention Lefty Bogan for the fourth consecutive month, but he's one of the guys who can't make it next week for a very good reason. His White Sox start spring training in Florida that weekend. Business and "moving" reasons will prevent Rog Antaya from making the trek. He was recently named general agent for New England Life in Baltimore and is now in the throes of selling his home in Atlanta, commuting on weekends and getting organized to compete with Al Barrett. As you know, Rog coached football at West Point until '57 when he decided to go into the insurance business. He's had spectacularly good success in this field and should keep Al hopping in the Baltimore market.

Bill Davles, an announcer for WTMJ and WTMJ-TV in Milwaukee, has decided to become a missionary in Lebanon. After missionary training at Stoney Point, N.Y., ending in June, he will become supervisor in an interdenominational radio project which will cover the Middle East and most of Africa. Bill will be known as a "fraternal worker" in his mission post and will be stationed in Beirut. He will do this church work under a five-year contract. Bill is married and has three children. His wife will assist him in his work. All of us wish the Davies family the best in this exciting new project.

Here's some round-about news. JohnEaton ran into Ray Zrike at the China and Glass Show in Atlantic City. Ray gave John a newspaper clipping which John sent me which announces that Hardy Caldwell was recently elected president of the Tennessee Stove Works in Chattanooga. They manufacture a complete line of built-in and freestanding gas and electric ranges.

Merle Hagen was good enough to send on an article from Advertising Age about DonHinkley, general manager of P. & G.'s new Frankfurt operations. It seems that Don and arch business rival, Denis Lanigan, general manager of J. Walter Thompson which services Unilever, felt the educational facilities in Frankfurt could be improved. They set about forming the new Frankfurt International School. The new school, of which Don is chairman of the board, opened last fall with an enrollment of 160 students from eleven nations. They go from nursery school through eighth grade. As an educator, Don seems to be making the same rapid headway he did in the advertising world.

Merle also reports that artist, Al Hormel, is now a resident in his home town of Weston, Conn. Bob Colwell, president of the New Rochelle Kiwanis, was able to interest the press in covering a recent meeting where sportscaster Marty Glickman was the featured speaker. The Kiwanis Public Relations effort collapsed when next day the event was headlined "Sportscaster Addresses Rotary Club."

Alex Gillespie has been appointed assistant general counsel of the American Smelting and Refining Company. He joined the company in 1960, after being associated with the law firm of Breed, Abbott & Morgan of New York. Alex received his law degree from Fordham University in 1957. Before taking his degree, he had been with Vick Chemical and Avco Manufacturing Company. Alex, his wife Elizabeth, and their four children make their home in Greenwich, Conn.

Fritz Witzel has been promoted to vice president in charge of manufacturing for Chicago Rawhide Manufacturing Co. He was formerly general manager of the synthetic rubber division. Chicago Rawhide makes fluid sealing products and mechanical rubber goods. Bob Kendall was recently appointed to the newly created post of Canadian project manager for U.S. Borax and Chemical Co. and is making his headquarters in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. He'll coordinate all engineering and geological work in completing the studies relating to possible large scale potash production up there. Formerly, Bob was engineering manager at the company's Boron, Calif., plant. The National Shawmut Bank of Boston promoted Harry Carey to assistant vice president.

In other elections and promotions, BudCoith was named secretary-treasurer of the medical and dental staff of Cincinnati's Children's Hospital. And Hap Bush, C.L.U., representative for National Life Insurance Co., was elected president of the Hartford Life Underwriters Association. Hap is former chairman of the first Republican District of West Hartford and also a former Justice of the Peace.

Gordie Plummer is in the unenviable position of becoming known as "Mr. Barbara." His wife who MCs the popular TV Romper Room show in Cleveland has become the celebrated "Miss Barbara" and poor daddy is caught in the backwash. The Don Burnhams were able to break away for an Arizona vacation late last fall. Don Sheridan has been appointed by Governor Kerner to the Illinois Building Authority.

Dick Bradley is Associate Professor of Physics at Colorado College in Colorado Springs. Lt. John Craighead is now making his home in Jacksonville, Fla., and MajorJim Elliott is at the Army Chemical Center, Md. Attorney Monte Sayce is now practicing in Berkeley, Calif. Tom Kunau is in the neighborhood over in 'Frisco.

We'll take some pictures for you in Hanover next week of that hard working committee scratching up the Davis rink. Should be like a Laurel and Hardy adventure.

Secretary, 1105 Center St., Milford, O.

Treasurer, River Road, Cos Cob, Conn.
