The Class of '33 is real proud of Representative John Monagan who was re-elected to his fourth consecutive term in Congress from Connecticut's 5th Congressional District by an overwhelming majority and of Hank Smith who took over William E. Miller's seat in the House in New York's 40th District. I doubt that many classes have two members in Congress at the same time.
Further notes on Dartmouth '33 sons in the class of 1968 which were listed in the October ALUMNI MAGAZINE. Richard Derricks is the second son of Hank to have matriculated at Dartmouth; son, Hank Jr., is in the Class of '65. Henry Gump IV is the second son of Frank Gump at Dartmouth. Son Peter graduated in the Class of '60. Twins, David and Jonathan, are the second and third sons of Gordon Ferry Hull at Dartmouth - Gordon Ferry III graduated in the Class of '63. Dick Kimball is Whit's second son at Dartmouth; Whit Jr. graduated in the Class of '63. You know how proud the parent of these boys must be.
Orton Hicks '21 reports that Jack Robinson has been assigned by Hilton International to organize and run a big golf tournament they are staging in Puerto Rico this winter.
The National Chairman for the Wells College Centennial Development Campaign is Jus Stanley. Jus has been a Wells College trustee since 1960 and has three connections with Wells College. Not only is he a trustee, he is also the husband of the former Leigh Fletcher of Wells class of '34 and father of Melinda who is now at Wells. With the experience that Jus has had in fund raising (you will recall that he spent two years in Hanover as a Vice President to help prepare for Dartmouth's major capital gifts campaign a few years ago), I am sure that Wells has selected a top-flight man to direct this all important effort and bring it to a successful conclusion. It is interesting to note that one of his vice chairmen is Mrs. John G. Faegre Jr. of Minneapolis, Minn., wife of our own John. Lots of luck, Jus, in a job with great responsibility!

He and Virginia have a daughter, Virginia, and 2 sons, John and Robert. At one time John was associated with Owens-Illinois in Toledo, Ohio, but he now reports that he is retired.
The activities of Dick Goldthwaite could fill not only this column but a whole magazine. I told you that I saw Dick and his family at Reunion but perhaps you would like to know just a little bit more about him than I reported at that time. He is at Ohio State University as a Professor of Geology and Director of the Institute of Polar Studies. He teaches from January to June and does research in the field and in the laboratory from June to December and has many administrative duties. He was President of the Ohio Academy of Science in '58 and '59 and Governor of the Arctic Institute of North America from 1960 to the present time. He is active as an Elder in the Worthington Presbyterian Church, President of the P.T.A., etc., etc. He and Catherine have 3 daughters and a son. Jane, their oldest daughter, graduated from Antioch in June and was married in September 1963. Susan is at Western Reserve and will graduate in June of '66 with a B.S. and as a registered nurse. Betsy is at Ohio Wesleyan in the Class of '67. In the past year Dick was at the Sukkertoppen Glacier in Greenland where he went right after Reunion and stayed through July. In August he was in Alaska in the Yukon Territory at Kaskawalch Glacier. In October in New Zealand at Tasman Glacier Valley and from there he went to Antarctica during November and December and Queen Maude Mountains. In between these major assignments he took other short side trips. I have no word from him on what his activities have been this past summer but he had hoped to be able to stay at home and do some writing.
