Dartmouth has received two grants totaling more than $110,000, to aid graduate study, from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration and the Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship Foundation.
The NASA award includes training grants for six graduate students working toward doctoral degrees in spacerelated areas, as well as funds for the College to assist it in improving graduate programs in space-related sciences.
The six students will each receive $2400 a year, usually for three years, plus up to $100 a year dependency allowances. The College will receive $48,600 in supporting funds which will be used to purchase research equipment, contribute to costs of the Computation Center, and support special faculty salaries.
The Woodrow Wilson Foundation has awarded $200 to Dartmouth as one of 85 graduate schools where Woodrow Wilson Fellows chose to study this year. The foundation also awards $1800 to each Fellow and pays tuition costs to the college. Three-fourths of the grant awarded to the college is to be used to aid graduate students in their second or subsequent years of study, not necessarily Woodrow Wilson Fellows, and one-fourth is to be used by the college to aid graduate education in any way it wishes.
