When I told you of Dick Ostberg's pride in having his son Rick accepted at Dartmouth, I failed to mention another honor that befell him. Oz, as you know, is manager of industrial relations for Sylvania Electric. In that capacity, he has done an outstanding job on programs concerning the safety of their employees, on and off the job. As a result of his achievements in this area and his outside interests in the state safety programs, he was elected to a three-year term on the Board of Directors of the Massachusetts Safety Council, a non-profit organization which was founded in 1919 to promote accident prevention.

Dr. Bill Stahl has returned to New York after four years at the University of Vermont where he was associate chairman of the Department of Surgery and also directed surgical research. In New York, Bill assumed associate professorship in surgery at the N.Y.U. Medical Center. In addition, he opened his private practice as surgeon in the New York University Hospital, 550 Fifth Avenue. Also, he has authored and published over forty articles on surgical and surgical research topics.

I can't remember whether Meryll Frost was Dartmouth's last Ail-American or not. Anyway, he's now a big man in the automotive field and was recently appointed general manager of Pierce Chevway Inc., where he will be responsible for all the leasing activities in Pawtucket. Meryll and Pauline have six children.

Irl Rose has been named director of advertising and sales promotion for The Ruberoid Company in New York, producer of building materials, floor coverings, and industrial products. He joins Ruberoid from Kastor, Foote, Hilton & Atherton where he had been, since 1963, senior vice president and a member of its board. Previously, he had been president of his own agency, RoseMartin, Inc. since 1956.

In Boston, word is out that Senator StanZarod is expected to be named to the post as secretary of the Commission on Interstate Cooperation. There was a good picture in the Manchester Union of ChuckRichardson at the time when he and his brother presented a $1000 check in memory of their father to the new Dover swimming pool. Chuck has become a big name in Arizona development in recent years.

Ab Davis, public relations vice president of the Southern New England Telephone Company, was recently named to the board of trustees of the Connecticut Savings Bank. In addition to his work with the phone company and the bank, Ab is a director of the New England Council of the New Haven Rehabilitation Center, the Quinnipiac Council of Boy Scouts, the New Haven Taxpayers' Research Council, the Kiwanis Club of New Haven, and the Quinnipiac Club. Also, in the banking field, "Needle" Allen was recently appointed senior vice president of the Paribas Corporation, the United States affiliate of the Banque de Paris et des Pays-Bas.

In Kalamazoo, Homer Bogart was named special accounts sales manager of the pulp, paper, and board marketing division of Brown Company, manufacturers of forest products. He held the same position with KVP Sutherland Paper Company which was merged into Brown last May.

I played in a golf tournament over the weekend in which Jim Briggs turned out to be one of the super-stars. The next time you get to Albany, be sure to stop in to see Charles Farley, administrator and store manager of Macy's up there.

Down in Coral Gables, Florida, DickOakley is president of an English-based company in the Eleuther Island whose name escapes me for the moment. I think I've reported that Dr. Bill Gatlin is also down in Florida, making his home in Tampa.

Mac Corner is now working out of Chicago where in his work with U. S. Steel, he's industry representative in construction marketing. As you'll remember, Mac's been the big man in bridges over the years. Dave Eckels has moved into a new home on Ledyard Lane in Hanover. Insurance man Bill Abrams is now making his home in Woodstock, N. Y. Lt. Col. Gene Callagan, naval aircraft designer, is doing some special work with Hamilton Standard and making his home in West Hartford.

Once again, our thanks for your magnificent support of the Alumni Fund in '66. Under Phil Penberthy's guidance, the Class of '44 smashed every conceivable record. I hope you'll all have a chance to get up to see Dartmouth go for another Ivy title.
