Two new candidates for the Class of 1987 were born during the past few weeks. Blakeand Dutch Hering had their first son, John Blake Jr. on March 2. He'll be well taken care of as he joins three older sisters. Dickand Jane Lombard also had their first son, Richard Joshua, on February 27. I know that both Dick and Blake will appreciate the male companionship. Dartmouth will have to go coed before Nancy Ellen Fowler can become a candidate. She was born last November 22. The proud parents, Tom andFrances Fowler, have moved into a new house to make room for their new addition.

Last but not least, the William Johnson Appreciation Dinner was held in Hanover on February 25. Needless to say, the guest of honor was Billy Johnson. The following copy of a telegram seems to set the tone of the evening:
"Pleased to verify after thorough check of our files that among other things William Johnson of the Class of 1953 at Dartmouth College holds the following records: Longest practice place kick wearing street clothes in Leverone Field House history. Distance: 59 yards - Cost: $159.00 for fluorescent light fixture replacement. Hardest forehand ping pong drive in Grafton County - speed checked at 105 miles per hour. Accumulated Blue Cross payments to opponents - $426.00 t o date. Longest after-dinner speech ever recorded in the Town of Hanover, at an informal gathering of friends, February 3, 1958, Room 117, Hanover Inn. Fewest references to scandal per column inch of newsprint among any major political figures who have attended Dartmouth College excepting those major political figures attending the William Johnson Appreciation Dinner, Friday, February 25, 1966."
