Please note my new address just in case any of you want to send me some news. Our recent move is interesting from the standpoint of our Class since it involved two classmates. This past December, Michelle and I bought Fred Gieg's house and sold our house to Fred Carleton. There's nothing like keeping it in the Dartmouth '53 family, although I doubt if the local real estate agents are too pleased since we by-passed them.
Fred Gieg was promoted and transferred to Pittsburgh by U.S. Steel. His new assignment is assistant to the Pittsburgh Branch Manager. He and Holly are living in Fox Chapel which was formerly the home of Mollie Carleton. Fred Carleton recently changed jobs and left Litton Industries to join Greeff Fabrics, Inc. in Port Chester, N. Y. He has been appointed administrative assistant to the president. Fred and Molly have had a hectic fall. In addition to the move from New Jersey to Port Chester and the new job, they just had a baby girl and also bought a farm in New Hampshire.
Dave Halloran writes that "my desperation for Class news has been apparent" (I couldn't agree more) and was kind enough to send some along. He reports that BobRobinson has gone into private practice in internal medicine and cardiology in the Indianapolis area. Bob recently returned from Karachi where he helped to establish an internal medicine residency program at Jennah Central Hospital. Dr. David Siegal is in the Medical Corps of the Army at Fort Carson, Colo. Dave was promoted to Major last November and has applied for a regular Army commission.
Other items from Dave Halloran state that Jay and Marily Hague have been in Conyngham, Pa., for the past year or so where Jay is Industrial Relations Manager for Dow Chemical. Steve Dohanos had a daughter, Nina, last July and Dr. Jim Rose a second son, Michael Parmer. Dave also heard from George High who is now in Guayaquil, Ecuador. George was sent there last September to be the Deputy Principal Officer in the U.S. Consulate General. Dave saw the Tinker Williamsons and Bill McCarthy at the going-away party for TomBloomer and also has seen Carl England on several occasions. Carl is with General Dynamics in Washington. Dave says he is enjoying his new job as the "sales department" for Aerolab. Many thanks for the news, Dave, if you had sent much more I could have filled this whole column with it.
A press release from W. R. Grace Co. reports that Lawrence Garvin has been appointed merchandising manager of the Organic Chemicals Division of W. R. Grace's Dewey and Almy Chemical Division, Cambridge, Mass. Formerly eastern product manager for Closure Sealing Compounds, he will be responsible for merchandising plans on a wide line of products. DaveThomas has been promoted to marketing manager in the Buffalo office of 1.8.M. Dave and his wife, Buffie moved to Orchard Park, N. Y., from Poughkeepsie and six days later Buffie went to the hospital to deliver a daughter. The rigors of corporate life!
Don O'Hara has joined the University of Connecticut's English faculty as an assistant professor. Don was formerly at the University of Vermont and is working on a book on William Hazlitt's criticism. He is also the author of articles on J. D. Salinger and Joseph Conrad. Don received his master's degree from Columbia and his doctor's degree from Harvard. One final note: FredWhittemore is passing out cigars for the birth of his first son, Lawrence Frederick born December 27, 1965 — just in time for the income tax deduction.
