Billy Atwood has been the "movingest" guy in the class over the past few years as he changed assignments with Avis, Olin, and National car rental organizations. Word has come that- he is now associated with Gordon Keith Originals, a plastics fabricator in Columbus, Ohio. Presumably he is going to stay in one place for a while! Good luck, Billy.
And good luck too to Gay Milius who has retired from Uncle Sam's Navy where he has been legal officer at Norfolk Naval Station for many years. He became a member of the firm of Sacks, Sacks & Kendall in Norfolk in September. With two college tuitions to pay for, Gay says he must keep his nose to the grindstone.
After living for many years in Canada, Leo Bernache is now in Shady, N. Y., but I have no idea what he is doing there. In a phone conversation with Ed Knapp last night, he told me that Sam Black has been laid up with ticker trouble. I'll try to have more word for you next month.
Bill Dewey was on hand for the varsity football scrimmage with Southern Connecticut and looked very well. He expects to do some hunting this fall and is going right ahead with his responsibilities as reunion chairman. Gertrude and John Donovan's son Billy was the most exciting back on the field that day and I'm hoping the prediction I made a year ago in this column that Billy was due for stardom comes true this year.
Jan and Wes Seattle's daughter, Leslie, was married to Ermel James McElwee Jr. on October 7 in Melrose, Mass.
It's been some time since we've heard from Mel Katz. But he made up for it with a long letter telling about himself and family. To' do this justice, I have suggested to Bob Fox that he include the news contained in it in his Newsletter. Ruth and Mel's son, Bill, is teaching Health Care Administration at George Washington University and is working on his doctorate. He has been at the Travelers in Hartford all summer as a Fellow working on a hospital research project. He was featured in an article in the Travelers Bulletin. Harry Buckley is director of Customer Service at Celanese Corporation. Dorothy and Harry have two sons, Robert, a graduate of Wake Forest in 1965, and Thomas, a junior at North Carolina State. Harry is active in various textile associations.
Bill Legrow writes that he enjoys living in the San Francisco area where he has for eleven years been vice-president and division manager of the Pacific Division of Liberty Mutual Insurance Company. Bob's twin daughters, Parthenia and Paris. Both attended University of California at Santa Barbara. Paris has a master's with honors from Rutgers and is now working on her doctorate. Parthenia and her husband, Bill Gracey, are the parents of Margaret and Bill's first two grandchildren, Scott and Leigh. Bob modestly reports being active in various community and church activities. He is a director of the Morrison Centre for Vocational Rehabilitation.
Henry Miller did not graduate with us but continued his education at Washington University in St. Louis and also received a B.S. in Education from the same school. He is a supervisor in the Computation and Data Processing Branch of the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Md. Rose and Henry's daughter, Anne, is a cum laude graduate of Western College for Women, Oxford, Ohio.
Bobby Burns writes "Not much news to report. I run into Paul Weston every once in a while. We are in the same business - he as an artist and me as an agent. I enjoy the work, feel fine, and am very happy. Studio City is on the outskirts of Hollywood. I have a nice home and enjoy it. Hope to get back to Hanover one time for a reunion. (Make it this time, Bobby, and put the dates June 17 and 18, 1968 on your calendar.) His official title is vice-president of General Artists Corporation in Beverly Hills. And he is still a bachelor!
Bill Flaccus writes that he married Alice Pennock on September 10, 1966. We send our best to both of you. Bill says that he is self-employed as an author but he doesn't say what his specialty is. He is a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, and the Media Republican Club. He has a master's degree from Columbia and a doctorate from New York University. His son, Jonathan is a Haverford College graduate.
It's great for me and, I hope, the rest of you to hear from so many who have not been mentioned in these columns for many years. Thanks to all of you for writing.
I received a nice note from John Hancock Jr. '6l acknowledging the memorial book that we will place in Baker in memory of his dad. He tells me that his mother, dad and sister were getting ready to make a trip up to Norwich to visit relatives and John planned to do some fishing when he had a massive heart attack and died almost instantly. John Jr. says, "Dad was always proud of his association with Dartmouth, a fact which can be attestetd to by the attendance of his son at the same school."
