Herb Wolff got off on the right foot for '57. In December Polly presented him with a son, Charles Herbert (who is at this time safely registered at Dartmouth), and then a few weeks later he was made partner of his N.Y.C. law firm which is now known as Greenbaum, Wolff, and Ernst.
Another chap who seems to have started off the new year correctly, at least he could write a legible letter on January i, is John Beckwith. In part, he reports, "Our fifth, and I hope last infant, a daughter was born on December 4 and we tagged her Deirdre. Now this gives us four girls and a son. About two months ago I went to Hartford for a swell get-together with Bill Gatlin and Harry Morse. Maybe this is old news ... Bill is chief radiologist at Middlesex Hospital in Middletown and Harry started practice in ear, nose, and throat in the West Hartford area. At the time of the affair we had thirteen kids between the three of us! See Ezekiel Spitz here in New London occasionally. He is in business with his Dad in their Coal and Oil Co." John then goes on to inquire about George Dike's address, which is 7029 King Arthur Rd., Jacksonville 11, Fla.
The Reading (Mass.) Chronicle recently ran a piece about one of Reading's outstanding high school teachers, Ed Roewer, who coaches football and JV baseball in addition to teaching Naval Reserve Program courses. I didn't know until I read the article that Ed was such a prodigious fisherman. According to reports, he's landed an 816-pound tuna and a 325 pound swordfish. And, among other interests, "has an unusual collection of minerals from the southwest, and numbers hundreds of books in his collection of pre-1900 volumes. Locally, he is active as president of a men's club."
Things must be looking up for both Pete Blaisdell and Bob Wiley, both of whom recently moved to New Canaan, Conn. I wonder what Ja Densmore is doing over in Honolulu? Dick Ostberg's wife Proc noted on their Christmas card that there's been a change in family operations; whereas a few years ago they would introduce a new youngster on each year's card, now it's a new home town. Their latest move has them in Alexander, N. Y. Their four kids are the best looking little Swedes you ever saw.
We still have nothing official as to when Sherm Davis will tie the knot, but are pleased to report that Dr. Law Lamar Ager and pretty Bessie Bouchelle Shepard of Birmingham will be man and wife on January 19.
I'm afraid I'm going to have to wrap this up a bit prematurely this month. I've been shuffling through a stack of old assorted papers, and even tried to think, in an effort to come up with some news to fill this column, but all I get is a Maggie's Drawers. I'll make a concerted effort to do better next month.
