John Packard, who is the "Innkeeper" at Surf and Sand Resort, Lido Beach, Sarasota, Florida, reported having hosted Florence and Dutch Schroedel at his establishment for several weeks - also the Dartmouth Club dinner in March. The Bill Jenkinses also had planned to take advantage of his hospitality, together with the Larry Leavitts, but the latter had to change their schedule in favor of taking care of their two granddaughters who were on vacation from Abbot Academy. They were to get together however at Naples and then move on to Pink Sands Lodge at Harbour Island, Bahamas, where they expected to devote - of their time in surfcasting or bonefishing. Larry and Bob McKennan made quite a gruelling trip by car to Rochester, N. Y., and back in 28 hours, a distance of about 670 miles, to pick up a four-month-old pointer pup with which they hope to hunt next fall.
Francis Brown recently was named cowinner of the Dartmouth Alumni Award for Distinguished Service in Journalism and Public Affairs. The other winner was John L. Steel '39. Brownie is editor of the New York Times Book Review. His accomplishments in the field of literature have been so many that space available in this medium is hardly sufficient to cover them. When he graduated from college he decided to go into banking, but this venture lasted less than a year and he went. back to school for his M.A. and Ph.D. in history at Columbia. After three years of teaching at Hanover, he was offered a job with Current History, owned by The Times. He has been involved in journalism since then.
During our next-to-last ski trip to North Conway we got word from Whitey that the Frank Wallises had gone to Bermuda for a brief vacation and that on their first day there they were mowed down by a motorbike. They were both hurt, but fortunately the injuries were not serious.

This is the time of year when the thoughts of every Dartmouth man turn toward Hanover and the Alumni Fund Drive. Larry has reminded us of our class pledge, made in the spring of 1925, to repay the College for the cost of our education which was not covered by the modest, tuition at that time. While the class as a whole has fulfilled that pledge, it is clear from the record that many individuals are far short of the ultimate goal of $2,000, which it will be recalled was our tuition fee for four years and represented approximately one-half the actual cost. While it is recognized that some have not been in a position to meet this obligation, it is certain that others, who have been able to do so, have not done so. With our advancing years and imminent retirements, it would seem that now is the time to make up for any deficit in this regard.
