Dr. George Pender is a very poor correspondent, but our mutual friend Dr. Harry "Sherry" Baketel D-M-C '95 has kept us posted about him. You will remember that about a year ago George suffered serious injury by slipping on the ice. He had a remarkable recovery, and now we have received the following from Dr. Baketel, who is wintering here in Florida at Pass-a-grille, "I have just written Georgie Pender that the day of miracles is still with us, and if the enclosed clipping from the Manchester Union is true, I am ready to believe anything." The Manchester Union story tells of Dr. Pender's activities during the past fifty and more years at Portsmouth, N. H., and of how he was honored at the Dartmouth Alumni Dinner in New York City January 26 with a seat at the head table, and was introduced to the more than 1000 alumni attending as a member of '93, the oldest class represented at the dinner. More power to him.
Word comes from Paul Jenks '94 of Flushing, N. Y., telling of the death of Mrs. Fred Tuxbury at Brockton, Mass. January- 17. She was the former Nina Tuell, a teacher in the Hanover public schools when Dr. Tuxbury met her. He was at the time attending the Dartmouth Medical College. After Fred's death in 1905 she went as a missionary to Japan, remaining there a number of years. Upon her return to the United States she taught at the State School for Girls at Hudson, N. Y. Later she resided at Whitman and Brockton, Mass. We are indeed appreciative of this information from Paul Jenks. It brings to us fond recollections of one of our most beloved classmates.
