On into the final month of 1968 and we find it a bit difficult to adjust to the quick passage of time. How come that time goes faster than it used to?
Leon Aronowitz, up in Albany, reports all's well up there, sends greetings to all and is looking forward to seeing us one of these days. Same here, Leon!
Hal Davison reports from Woodsville, N. H., he was heading on a three-week tour - Montreal, thence by domecar to Vancouver, then down the coast to 'Frisco and Los Angeles and back home via Grand Canyon and other points of interest. Said he would miss some football games but would see a lot of nice country and have a real vacation. We are sorry space doesn't permit reproducing a "First Copy" poem he "scratched off" which was signed - "Hiram Kinsey Dopey." It was a honey!
Kike Richardson was reported in rare form at a cookout he put on at the Ledyard Bridge grounds during New Hampshire game in Hanover. Kike is famous, amongst other things, for his frankfurters and green corn on the cob.
Sid Crawford reports taking his daily swim in the Atlantic well towards Oct. 1 up at Kennebunk, Me. He reports the water "practically boiling" at 70 degrees!
Among those attending the late-lamented Princeton game in Hanover were the ArtSheldons, the Charlie Comiskeys, the BobBigelows, the Jack Bowlers with daughter and granddaughter, Marty Martin with sonin-law, Kike Richardson (as always), and the Eben Cloughs. Could it be they didn't root hard enough?
The Tom Connellys received a surprise visit from the Eben Cloughs during early October's fine weather and the latter were quite struck with the view of the broad Atlantic's "breaking waves white with foam rolling in on the rocks below." Tom and Eben did a lot of reminiscing about their "billets" back of Wentworth Hall - way back when. Eben says Tom has "the wit of a Gremlin!"
A birthday card from Dale and BessBarker says: "Ever get that crazy itch to be 21 again? Well - Scratch It!" A piece of sand-paper was enclosed!
A note from George Ingalls, a twin of this scribe, reveals quite a jaunt of some 2000 miles with some friends into western Colorado, Utah, Arizona, and Mexico, including the Grand Canyon, early in October. George says the newspapers out that way do a poor job of reporting Ivy League games. In view of the outcome (at this writing) perhaps it's just as well!
A phone from Pete Pray reports all's well in his bailiwick. They spent a pleasant summer at their place in Madison, Conn, and are now back in Philadelphia.
Joe Comstock, owner of Comstock Coaching School in Los Angeles, reports that son, Lieut. Col. Joe Jr., is now back from Viet Nam where he served as Chief of Staff for the Civil Affairs Dept. of the U.S. Army and is now retired in Claremont, Calif., with his wife and four children. The oldest of the grandchildren, Jane, entered Whittier College in October. Joe says he still puts in three days a week at his office.
John Healy, residing in Kissimmee, Fla., jaunted up to Hanover for a week or so in mid-October where he spent a pleasant evening with the Jack Bowlers. On his return trip through New York, he buzzed this scribe and we spent an interesting luncheon get-together at the Dartmouth Club here. Needless to say, we rehashed a lot of doings and settled the affairs of state - at least to our satisfaction. John seemed in fine fettle!
Dave Markham, out in Tahlequah, Okla., was joined by his twin brother from Kansas to celebrate their October birthday. Dave says they had a big wheat crop, pastures and cattle look good, a big apple crop, and many things to be thankful for. Living near Arkansas University, that is where they see most of their football and naturally root for the Arkansas "Razorbacks."
The weekend in Cambridge over the Harvard-Dartmouth game produced quite a reunion of '15ers, particularly the night-before gathering at Holiday Inn. Your scribe counted 38 classmates and wives at the gathering and it certainly was a good renewing of our associations. More of the same occurred at Kike n' Pearl's Saturday morning party which, in the annals of this long-time affair was up to par in all respects. It is reported that Kike has sworn that, as long as he "can put one foot in front of the other," these famous parties will continue!
Post-game gatherings brought more intimate get-togethers for those fortunate enough to straggle back from the stadium, putting a final touch on a weekend of nostalgic reminiscing. While the game itself was a bit hard to swallow, the Dartmouth score in the final seconds sent us away with an uplift which offset somewhat being beaten by a superior team.
Jack Bowler and his cohorts did a swell job in staging this weekend affair and it should send us on to future gatherings with a feeling of anticipation of the good fellowship that is always present at 1915 Get-togethers!
Inasmuch as this issue winds up the year, we extend good wishes to all for a Merry Christmas and may the year coming up bring to us all that which is best expressed by the good old expression: "Happy New Year"!
