The Class of 1965's appreciation for the gift of the Hill Book has been expressed by quite a flock of letters received by 1915 to whom the gift is attributed.

Typical of the Hanover Campus in early fall is this quick picture from one of our contributors: "The place is alive with freshmen in their beanies, freshmen's parents, upperclassmen with bundles, more freshmen with said bundles transferred - plus other chores, footballs in the air, and football talk all the way from the Inn porch down to Memorial Field." Nostalgic!

A new Defense Department building in Washington to be named for our departed classmate James V. Forrestal, first Secretary of the Department, is announced by President Johnson.

The Art Sterlings, on a scenic and memorable trip through Norway, Sweden, and Denmark, come up with a coincidence which only goes to show that Dartmouth kin are all over the world. On this bus tour, they became acquainted with Bill Morton '32 and it turned out that Morton's sister married Walter Beach Humphrey '14 with whose art work we are all familiar. Art's efforts in the field of art and cartooning, with which we are also familiar, were recognized by Humphrey and, when he grad- uated, Art was put in as the Jack O'Lantern editor. Art hopes to look up Walter Humphrey in Clearwater, Fla., when he gets down there in the spring. It's a small world!

We are glad to welcome back into the 1915 fold Edward J. Carr who, for too long, has been listed in the "lost, strayed or stolen" category. Ed is sorry he missed Reunion and was looking forward to resuming contact - which he promptly proceeded to do at the Harvard game weekend, tying in with his old roommate Opie Horton, and several others.

"Pete" Pray, well on the recovery road, phones in to comment on Art Sterling's rendering of our birthday cards and to wonder why, according to the radio version, Dartmouth let up in the second half of the Harvard game. Question - did the Green let up or did the Crimson perk up?

'15ers seen at the Penn game in Hanover - the Wanamakers, the Clarkes, the Richardsons, the Benninks, the Cloughs, Sid Bull, Leon Aronowitz, and Carl Gish. It is understood that the Gish had to sit over on the Penn side for lack of tickets available!

It has been noted that Nut Norwood held down the table week-in and week-out during the long hot summer at Purcell's famous weekly Dartmouth luncheons and I have been commissioned to give him herewith the title of "Anchor Man"!

We regret to report the passing of Roland Pierce on July 18, 1965 and, more recently, the passing of Art Tower on October 17. Our sincere sympathy goes out to their families.

Dave Markham reports a delightful birthday party out in Tahlequah, Okla., with his twin brother who came over from Independence, Kan., for the occasion.

Your scribe was surprised and delighted to receive a phone call from Dan Daniell's daughter during a visitation here in New York. She and some friends saw a couple shows and "had a ball" while in town and sent greetings from the "boss" out there in Green Bay.

It is rumored that Eben Clough bet on "2 hosses" up at the Topsham Fair in Maine some time ago - the first one came in last and the second next to last - which, according to Eben, made that his "last bet"!

The Harvard game weekend was tops - weatherwise, attendance-wise, and gamewise. Some 40-odd '15ers foregathered at Locke-Ober's famous eating establishment the night before and thoroughly enjoyed the lush food, good service and congenial atmosphere. The Kike n' Pearl pre-game Brunch was its usual overwhelming handout of eats, drinks and hospitable atmosphere. The game itself gave an inkling of the versatile football this year's team is capable of - with offensive variation and defensive strength - that goal-line stand was a thing of beauty! At the class officers' meeting in Chan Foster's spacious offices prior to the pre-game Brunch, affairs of state were discussed pro and con, reports received and docketed, and future gatherings set up under the able guidance of our new president, Jack Bowler. All told - a satisfying weekend!

We were pleased to see the Herb Potters at Cambridge and to welcome into the fold their newly married daughter Julie with her newly acquired husband, Bill Quill. Proud Papa Herb was in his usual effervescent form, adequately recovered from his recent operational siege.

In scanning the return cards Chan Foster received anent attendance at the LockeOber's Class Supper, seven of the bunch (some with comments) were unsigned! What do you do in a case like that - punt?

Space in this issue does not permit recital of quite a flock of comments received from classmates recently, but we hope to get 'em in subsequent issues.

So - with Christmas coming up and Santa's sleigh bells in the offing, we hope the Holidays ahead will bring health and happiness to all!
