Class Agent ALBERT E. M. LOUER Mandel Bros., North State St., Chicago 2, III.
January 3 is not a particularly ideal day to write class notes. Fortunately, the editors have requested that notes be held to a minimum this month inasmuch as this issue of the MAGAZINE will be devoted to the annual report on the Alumni Fund. Willingly, I comply with the request for brevity.
None of you perusing this issue will teei highly elated over the showing of 1926 in last year's Fund standings. We can and have made better showings and right now is a propitious time for all of us to make a New Year's resolution to help put the class back at the top of the list where it rightfully belongs. Al Louer, our Class Agent, has forwarded me the names of his committee for 1949 and I think we should all resolve to give Al and his group our whole-hearted support. The divisional agents are as follows:
Massachusetts—Ran Cox Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont—Doug Everett Connecticut and Rhode Island—Ken Weeks New York City (Uptown)— Holt McAloney New York City (Downtown)—Les Talbot Up-state New York—Charlie Abbott New Jersey—Van Van Duyn Washington, D. C. and Southeast—Hub Harwood Pennsylvania—Ralph Thomas Michigan, Ohio, Minnesota and WisconsinTohnny Heavenrich Illinois—Del Worthington Pacific Coast—Ritchie Smith and Gob Des Marais Colorado and miscellaneous—Norrie Williamson Fraternity contact—Bob Cleary and Tubber Weymouth Bulletin Editors-Sid Hayward, Red Merrill and Hugh Morrison
HERE AND THERE—A communication from Gordon P. Chipman announces that he is the proprietor of a delightful establishment, "something new in resorts in the old south," known as "Chip, Ahoy!" and located at 434 Delannoy, Cocoa, Fla., on the west bank of the famed Indian River. Chip is prepared to play host to any and all '26ers who can utilize a real southern vacation and will be glad to hear from everyone! (Don Church please note!)—During the Xmas holidays we heard Bob May's famous tale of "Rudolph, the Rednosed Reindeer" on the radio and were delighted with the fanciful story—Another voice on the radio during the holidays was that of the well-known football prognosticator, EddieDooley. Eddie, however, cost this department money as we wagered on his Bowl Game predictions. Of his sixteen choices, eight won, seven lost and one ended in a draw. Eddie is forgiven, however, for we have learned from the New York Daily News that he has been appointed executive director of the Brooklyn Cancer Committee and is doing a splendid job for that excellent organization.
Jack Kjerner continues as one of the squash veterans on the new "B" team of the Dartmouth Club of New York.—A letter from George Borglum, from whom we have not heard in a long time, states that having completed his war work as a propaganda leaflet editor in London, director of a mobile radio unit during the liberation of France and a UNESCO planner with the State Department, he has returned to teaching at Wayne University in Detroit. George further advises that he is creating no problems for A1 Dickerson's office as he now has three daughters but that his own problems are of another nature—to wit, his eldest girl Imogene was asked down to New Haven by a Yale man to see the Princeton game. He'd rather she continued to look into the sun from the eastern side of the Yale Bowl. Quite understandable!— Many of-you probably noticed Dick Eberhardt's picture in a recent issue of Life magazine. Dick was among a group of better-known poets who met recently in New York's Gotham Book Mart to pay homage to the visiting Sitwells.
A recent note from Stew Orr informs us that among others noted at a recent meeting of the Charles River Dartmouth Club were ChrisBailey, Paul Newhall, Win Robinson and his son Win Jr., Russ Clark and son Prescott, George Pierce, Bob Salinger, Dick Nichols and son Andy, Carl Schipper, Lee Powers and of course Stew and his son David. Quite a 1926 gathering. Dick Nichols' brother-in-law is the new president of M.I.T. and Dick is worried about the divided loyalties of son Andy. Henry Blake is recovering from a serious spinal operation, made necessary by an accident he experienced last winter. We sincerely wish him well.
A number of '26ers are actively engaged in serving as interviewing committee chairmen. A recent memorandum from the College lists the following: Dr. Ralph Jones, George Buck,Bill Hughes, Don Mackay, Charlie Abbott,George Kennedy, Charlie Bishop, Gob DesMarais, Ted Greeley, Steve Millard, NickNickerson, Bob Cleary, Jake Jacobus, TomHerlihy, Jim Traquair, Herm Davidson,Cobby Crosby and Les McFadden. Sid Hayward is Alumni Councilor for the entire region of Canada and other foreign countries and Nate Parker is the Alumni Councilor for all of Western Pennsylvania.—Bob May forwarded a letter from Trevor "Red" Boyce which states that Red, following five and onehalf years in the service overseas, is now remarried and has been living in Houston, Texas where he is District Representative for Eclipse-Pioneer, a division of Bendix Aviation Corporation.
That seems to be the "three-oh" mark for this issue. Don't forget to support the Alumni Fund this year.
