The freshman hockey and basketball teams have continued to improve and impress. Coach Standbrook's yearling skaters have a 14-3 record with six games to go, while Coach Tony Lupien's hoop squad is 11-4 after just taking two games from the St. Michael's frosh squad which beat them early in the winter.
The freshman squash team finished the season with a 7-2 record, losing only to Harvard and Deerfield Academy. Watch out for the varsity next season. So far this season the varsity has won twice, against McGill and Cornell. The win over the Big Red ended a five-season Ivy League drought.
It should be noted that for the first time in modern history Dartmouth men are competing in intercollegiate fencing. The Dartmouth Fencing Club, organized two years ago by six undergraduates, has grown to a current squad of over 25. Hampered by lack of equipment and a full-time coach, Indian fencers have still done surprisingly well. Captain Richard Livingston '6B and business manager Allen Brainerd '69 have been able to meet and compete with the best fencers in New England. The future seems bright for this dedicated group, who are also engaged in teaching the sport to over 60 other students as part of the physical education program at Dartmouth. Other Ivy League schools, en garde!
