I am happy to report that the Hollands have finally moved into their new home and in order to write this column I had to go through three large cartons to find some paper and a pen. We have only been here two days and since the stove was not connected and all plumbing not hooked up life has been something else again. As I sat on a crate last night reading the most recent '57 Varieties, I thought of Jim Dawson and his lawn - oh for a lawn instead of a sea of mud. I am sure we'll be settled in a few weeks.
A letter arrived recently from James S. Parkes, class of 1920, regarding his son, Lt. Cmdr. Jim Parkes who is a medical officer at St. Albans Naval Hospital, Long Island. N. Y. He is in charge of one of the orthopedic ward services with 160 in-patients, most of whom are war casualties. "J.C." recently gave a lecture to the medical staff at St. Albans describing his work with Vietnam casualties. He and his wife have two daughters, Susanne and Jacquelyn a year and a half. Jim is scheduled to complete two years' active duty this July.
Mike Tompkins has been assigned to the home office sales staff of The Paul Revere Variable Annuity Insurance Co. in Worcester, Mass. Mike joined Paul Revere in 1960 serving in both the claim and group departments. After that he served in Phoenix, Ariz., and Los Angeles, Calif., before returning to the home office. In his new position he will assist the company in its sales and service department and serve as a liaison between the home office and its field sales representatives.
Brad Gorham who is the Foster Town, R. I., solicitor and a Republican, was appointed as a legal assistant to the General Assembly in Rhode Island. He will work with standing committees of the Senate. He is one of four such assistants appointed on a bipartisan basis. Brad practices law with the firm of Gorham and Gorham.
A news release received recently from the Institute of Chartered Financial Analysts lists four members of the class who have been awarded the professional designation of Chartered Financial Analyst. They were among 491 financial analysts who received the designation this year as a result of completing a course of study and passing a series of examinations in investment principles, applied security analysis and investment management decision-making.
1700 candidates took the group of examinations under the supervision of the Institute, which was formed to promote professional standards among persons who analyze stocks and bonds for investment. Those receiving the designation are: Tony Jenks who is a trust investment officer for Crocker-Citizens National Bank in San Francisco; Stu Ensinger, a security analyst with Harris, Upham & Company in New York; DaveCook associated with Colonial Management Associates, Inc., in Boston; John Hewitt, an investment officer for Liberty Mutual Insurance Company also in Boston.
About to leave the bachelor ranks is DonCowlbeck who plans to marry Gail Malcolm of Sunningdale, England this spring. Don is with Ogilvy & Mather, Inc., an advertising agency in New York.
