Paul Woodbridge saves what would otherwise be an impossible situation with: "Hi, Gene," which is a crummy pun for a doctor, aye? "So you're in a jam for copy, AlMag May. And so you presently returned from where the happening is, not counting Y.N., D. C., and the melted mesa in Nevada? With one bleat you unhinge my credulity!

"Nonetheless," Dear Diary: March 29 ... International loverboy and management consultant Art Rose, returned from Pakistan to stateside surveillance by more sober types, including Bob Austin, at Harvard Business, arrives with Peggy for small holiday. Some fungus, as always. He'll be back in June for son Ron's fifteenth ... April 13 ... Johnand Virginia Cornehlsen wheel in to Hanover via Colby Junior and daughter Jean for Easter relapse. This is known as spicing erudition with the earthy. (When I ponder my mad fortune in roommates - Geogorpulo and Doctor John, I almost flip for teleology.) April 21 ... Ed Chinlund, Polly and associated pets make the scene for peptalks and programming on the Third Century Project. We quaff on their quay above the' River and dine Inn. A quietly memorable evening April 21... T. Truxton and Ruth Brittan report all's moonglow and scents of orange in Key West

"April 22, Forest Martin Brown calls from Rochester. N.H., to recon non-existent expiration dates for several rain checks on Bragpatch B&B&B. Editor-Producer of the 25-year Book Ramage writes from the end moments of the Class dinner in Gotham, 'Men still asking if any copies are available?' Check Crosby Hall Archives and report 'Done'! No specific inventory returned by press time but answer from the office of the College Secretary is confident and affirmative. Shall report further to Ramage, you, Gene, and Baehr shortly.... April 25 ... F.M. Brown arrives full of the New Math and the true New Hampshire man's equivalent of contentment. (Teachin' again, ayuh.) Air Force son and High School daughter doing splendidly. Pondered Larry Hale (reportedly supporting a new wife: friends are requested to omit flowers and send memorial tokens to the Fund for Cerebral Paltry). Sherm Weaver and other nostalgia nudgers from the remnants of Reed. (Anyone have a reading on Rich Rimbach?) ...

"April 27 . . . the fallout from Brown's departing Olds clears to reveal a spanking version of 'the better idea' cornering in with the original casting of Santa Claus. It's EarlHarris Fyler en route from a sentimental journey to childhood haunts up Barnet way V'mont, that is. Uh-huh! Got smart in March and Big Steel now pants for a new Saint-with-Sabre type to head up Industrial Relations at Gary Works. Uh-huh! Bought himself some acres up theah t' Bahnit; Connecticut overlook, of course, and off theah, bit north n' east, the Presidentials. Just in case, you understand, against next year's decisions when daughter Jane palms the parchment at Wisconsin and Lady HarrietCornell Ph.D. in chemistry who was conned into retred for teaching in the Land O' Lincoln - may help him assume the angle anew. Funney, how them urbanites keep askin', 'But what do you do with all your time up there in the country?' * Secretary's office calls this A.M. April 29.... No copies of our 25th year book remain, sorry."

Charlie Dudley writes, and apropos, too. "Last fall I buttonholed Paul Woodbridge to see if he was interested in giving a writing course at Lebanon College. Paul was interested, and, to be brief, he has given the outstanding course in our college this semester. Not only did Paul give a great deal of thought to course content and needs of the students, but also he has given time outside class to the specific projects of several students. I'm sure that Paul was productive in his chosen field, but he would probably rank with some of the great Exeter and Dartmouth teachers I had, if teaching had been his field. I hate to make Woody blush, but his devotion to the cause ranks with some of the nice things I remember about Chris Dickey's father, Dr. Gillespie, Dr. Joshi, Prof. Lambuth, and Kenneth Robinson, among others.

"My travels are fast, my time is organized as I never imagined it would be, so I see less of our classmates than I did. When I have worked and driven twelve hours a day. I m loath to impose myself on friends. I did have a great evening with Maynard, even to visiting the smoke-filled basement of a Democratic caucus. Tom had expected to be read out of the party, since he had run as an Independent for U.S. Congress. He was ahead of his time, and they've welcomed him back. He expects to be in the Maine House.... I'm hoping for a few days of Labrador fishing with Jack Eliot '31. Expect to leave for Ireland and the British Isles July 25. Hope to get some business done, catch a fish, and get culture. The D'Esopos are in charge of the arrangements. Also saw Bill (L.A.) Sykes of Mass. Life and Independence Funds. He is well, and proud of Franny who is president of House Presidents at Smith."
