Sunday, April 27 was a red letter day for our classmate, George F. French. It had started out as usual for him when he attended the chapel service at Phillips Academy in Andover, Mass., where he had taught for 34 years. Upon his return home he found his house filled with friends and neighbors who had come to celebrate with him his 90th birthday.

George's letter tells of his surprise and pleasure for this occasion and for the many gifts and cards he received from former students and friends from all over the country. He continues although he has had some health problems he gets around quite well and has just had his driving license renewed.

In 1944 George retired from the Phillips Academy where he had taught German and French. The final seven years he was the head of the French department. His wife, the former Anna Kramlich, died in 1952; they had no children. Since Anna's death he has lived alone but has been grateful for some daily household help.

He does a great deal of reading and is a loyal spectator at the athletic events of the academy. Sports on television is a great diversion for him also. Especially fond of young folks his advice to his teen-age friends is "Go to college."
