If any of you have children at college who are poets, let them enter the Kansas City Poetry Contests sponsored by Hallmark Cards. We mentioned this because one of the judges will be our class poet, PhilipBooth.

Some news from New Milford, Conn., informs us that Daniel Center Jr. has been appointed superintendent of schools for New Milford. Dan has been the principal of the New Milford High School since July 1965. Prior to that he was. principal of the Yarmouth High School in Yarmouth, Me. Dan was selected from well over 50 applicants. We wish him luck in his new post.

A recent bulletin is certainly an exciting one in regard to one of our more prominent classmates, DaveSquire, senior advisor for economic and social affairs at the United States Mission to the United Nations, who has just been named to the newly created post of vice president for student affairs at Brandeis University. Dave assumed his post on January 20. He will have responsibility for the total environment of Brandeis students at a time when questions concerning the very fibre of universities everywhere are emanating from every student quarter. There isn't any phase of student life with which Dave will not be concerned. Most of us are familiar with Dave's background as it has been recapped in this publication previously. However, here are a few highlights. After thirteen years with Ansonia Mills, Inc. he sold his stock, remained for three years as chief executive officer and then retired from business life. He entered public service as deputy director of the Job Corps and in June 1967 was appointed to the United Nations by Arthur Goldberg. We presume that Elly and his three children will be joining Dave at Brandeis.

From Springfield, Mass., comes news that Roger Dickinson has been appointed president of Remington Advertising, Inc. Roger has been with this firm for ten years and is a stockholder in the corporation as well as a member of its board of directors. Congratulations to another one of the growing list of 1947 cooperate presidents.

It was an interesting article and picture of our relaxed classmate, Douglas Palmer fishing in a Minnesota lake. Doug is manager of engineering for the Grocery Products Division of General Mills, Inc. and his calling card reads "Minneapolis" but his engineering responsibility includes plants in Buffalo; Toledo, Lancaster, Ohio; South Chicago, West Chicago; and Lodi, Calif. We think Doug should be appointed a roving class ambassador as he "certainly has opportunity to meet many classmates. In addition to his business activities he is president of Kiwanis, active in Toastmasters and church and school affairs. He lives with his wife and three children in Hopkins, Minn., just west of Minneapolis and if he is as relaxed as he appears in the photo he has really made a success of life.

John F. Mason of Norwalk, Conn., was recently promoted to vice president and assistant to the president of Paragon, a fuel oil subsidiary of Texaco. John joined Texaco 16 years ago after receiving his law degree at Boston College Law School and has served the firm as an attorney in labor relations and management. In local affairs he served on the Police Negotiating Committee and been active in Wilton Little League.

Al Bildner reports that he saw a picture of Dr. Gerard Van Halsema in the Newark Evening News recently. The picture was related to Gerard's promotion as vice president of production for Pfizer.

Glenn Duba reports from Minneapolis that he is back with the Al Johnson Construction Company as Chief Estimator of the Tunnel Division. Glenn is another '47 who does a lot of traveling and is also a candidate for a class ambassadorship. From Lilac Lane in Norwalk, Conn., Bob Mulligan drops a note to say hello and tells us that he spends his days as manager of the Compensation and Development Remington Office Machines Division of the Sperry Rand Company in Nor walk. We are impressed even if we don't quite understand what Bob does. Will the classmate who wrote the following please identify himself: "Nothing new. Same job. Children not yet in college. Do have a swimming pool to be installed (hopefully) in the spring," signed RSR. It did come from Groton, Conn., and that's the only clue we'll give. A short card full of vital information from Bill Jacobs in West Newton, Mass. Bill is treasurer of William Nelson Jacobs Associates, architects in Boston, reports that he is married, has four children equally distributed between the sexes and is active in Dartmouth as the second vice president of the Charles River Dartmouth Club. Minnesota seems to be full of Dartmouth men and Bob Fagerholm reports from Rochester, Minn., where he is supporting two sons in college, Peter, a junior at Stout State College in Wisconsin, and Tom, a freshman at Rochester State Junior College. Bob recently qualified for the National Quality Award and the Health Insurance Persistency Award which are both industry awards from the life and health segments of the insurance industry.

Townes Harris can always be counted on for a bit of news and reports that at the Penn-Dartmouth game last November he sat with Perry Anderson and at an alumni cocktail party afterwards saw Bob Keane,Jack Young, Bob Bach's wife (where was Bob?), Caroline and Bob Hall, Edith andJohn Kennaird, and Dorothy and RalphRankin, many of whom went out for dinner afterwards. Quite a healthy '47 representation. In addition to being the manager of the Transportation Products Division of the Lansdowne Steel and Iron Company, Gerard M. Mauer of Ardmore, Pa., in cooperation with the former Patricia Casey has six children five boys and one girl. There's no more news on that card but that certainly is a sufficiency. Milton "Wink"Bloodgood has recently moved to 16805 Bethayres Road, Derwood, Md„ and is the advertising manager of the Montgomery County Sentinal in Rockville, Md. From Washington, D. C., where the change in administration did not affect him, BobSchroeder reports that he's still in the Navy as a commander now stationed in Pentagon. His wife Evelyn and daughter Stacy, age 13, are with him. Before Washington Bob ing officer of the flagship of the Middle East Forces with his family living in Bahrain, Persian Gulf. He was in that area of the world during luly 1967 which was a pretty "hot" time. Despite his many travels Bob has not run into other '47s though he understands that Barry Marks is living in the neighborhood.

A very interesting card came from Mrs. Fike who is David Fike's mother and informs us that David is now a training director in the office of the Inspector General in Washington, D. C. And the College please note that his mail should no longer go to Madison, Wise., but should be addressed to David Fike OIG, Washington, D. C. 20250. David has been with the Federal Government ever since he graduated from the University of Wisconsin Law School. He has two sons 13 and 11 and unfortunately lost his first wife about five years ago. He remarried this past June and we congratulate him. We now quote Mrs. Fike "I thank you for forwarding all of his Dartmouth mail to him. I visited him once, while at Dartmouth, and I will never forget its beauty."
