The start of our 22nd year out of college and only three more years until the big twenty-fifth reunion. Tomorrow is here and today will never be found again. From the pile of mail and news clippings it looks like many '47s are doing things and we hope enjoying what they are doing not only in their careers but in their family life and outside interests.

"Wah Hoo Wah" for Roy Harris recently elected president of "Advertising Distributors of America." ADA handles premiums, contests, home distribution, etc. Roy lives with his wife and family in Harrison, New York. Julie Sayer deserves several Wah Hoos. First for running successful '47 New York Dartmouth luncheons once a month and really getting people out. Secondly for providing a private news clipping service for your secretary and more specifically for being elected president of the Board of Trustees and chairman of the executive committee of the Long Ridge School in Stamford, Conn. His additional involvement in community affairs as a delegate to the Citizens Caucus for the Stamford Board of Education, past president and present member of the executive committee of the New-field Corners Civic Association, Dartmouth Class Agent, Horace Mann School Class Chairman and we are sure a few other activities we don't know about. Dr. "Shelly"Segal was appointed in July by President Johnson to an - Special Committee of private citizens and Government officials to assess the total Federal role and responsibility in population problems. Shelly is associated with the population council. Austin Lohse who is a vice president of the International Banking Division of the American Express Company was recently appointed to the Board of Directors of the newly formed American Express Securities, S.A. and serves on the board in such distinguished company as the vice chairman of the Board of the American Express Company. While we are with the blue chip companies we report another step upwards for Roland Routhier who has been made assistant to the chairman of the Board of Texaco Inc. This follows by one year his return to New York from overseas to serve as assistant to the president. We wouldn't be surprised if in the not too distant future the word "assistant" was eliminated from Roland's title.

Bill Bailey of West Hartford, Conn., is another classmate whose rapid career advancements have been noted in these columns over the years. Congratulations go to Bill at this time for his appointment as vice president of the newly named Marketing Department in the casualty and surety division of Aetna Life & Casualty. Bill has been a vice president now for some years and his additional responsibility in the creation of a new department sounds like another challenge which we know he will meet

As you read this article Dick Stevenson formerly of Swampscott, Mass., should be settled into his new post as an administrative officer in the public schools of Newhall Calif. Dick will be a vice principal of a new school located about 40 miles north of Los Angeles. Dick's son is presently at Dartmouth. Good luck in your new post and your new home. A bulletin from the US Department of Health, Education and Welfare received just after we went to press in June informs us that Dr. Richard Egdahl, professor and chairman of the Department of Surgery at Boston University Medical Center, has been appointed to the Surgery Training Committee of the National Institute of General Medical Sciences. Dick is also surgeon-in-chief at University Hospital m Boston and consultant in surgery at several other Boston area hospitals. In addition he serves as a member of the National Research Council's Committee on Tissue Transplantation, the Committee on Graduate Training of the Society of University Surgeons and several other such groups. Dick lives with his wife and four children in Brookline, Mass.

Our clipping service has informed us that John Lee has been appointed president of J. Hungerford Smith, Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of the United Fruit Company. John, formerly senior vice president of marketing for Kitchens of Sara Lee, has spent his entire career in the food industry. The new job will require a change of residence to Victor, N. Y. for John, Nancy,, and their two sons, John and Paul.

We have been mixing our business, educational and professional plaudits without much rhyme or reason, as they came up in the pile of papers. However, it looks like we have a few in the educational field coming up that are worthy of note. Fred Frassinelii has been named president of a Sacred Heart University Community Associates Group formed in Bridgeport. Conn. This board will direct the operations of four subcommittees dealing with the areas of public relations, community relations, continuing education and financial development in this large and rapidly growing university. Fred seems to be heavily involved in many directions over and above his position as secretary and treasurer of the E&F Construction Co. He is a director of Bridgeport hospital, City Savings Bank, Metropolitan Zoological Society, United Fund of Eastern Fairfield county, Connecticut National Bank Advisory committee and the Family Service society. He is president of Connecticut Film Center and a trustee of Fairfield Country Day school. What do you do in your spare time, Fred? Joseph F. Marsh Jr., president of Concord College, received an honorary Doctor of Laws degree at the 64th annual commencement of Davis and Elkins College. The citation accompanying the degree is one that we as classmates of Joe can be proud of and we quote President Hermanson of Davis and Elkins College "It is our conviction that the outstanding service President Marsh has rendered to higher education and the leadership he has shown in so many ways merit the highest honor we as a college can give." Another recipient of an honorary degree is Poet Phil Booth who received an award as honorary Doctor of Letters from Colby College in Maine on June 2. While we are touching on degrees awarded and to show that our class is still continuing its educational process, we note that Gerard Joseph Kirchner received an M.S. degree in Commerce from the University of Vermont and that Carl Kaufmann received an advanced Master of Arts degree in History also from the University of Vermont. Fran O'Brien who is of the faculty of Riverbank High School in California has been an active participant in panels describing teaching methods and curriculum practices associated with constitutional rights issues. He has been cited as an outstanding participant in numerous clinics on teaching about the Bill of Rights and discussing the basic concepts and values in the Bill of Rights and developing the ability to handle conflict in the classroom. In light of the chaos and lawlessness increasing in our society, this area has received intense study from the State Board of Education of California.

The mailbag is just about empty but for any of you who do not have plans for the weekend of October 18 and 19 there might still be some rooms left for the class at the White River Howard Johnsons. There is an executive council meeting on Saturday morning before the Brown Game and most im- portant Lansing Reed together with EdSenghas has been able to arrange a '47 Cocktail Party and Dinner at the DOC House immediately following the game. All classmates are welcome.
