There's an old fraternity song containing the line "Up and onward let us move." That was the case for several of our Great Divide brothers in early 1969. Neil Roberts '35 was promoted from president to vice chairman and chief executive officer of the Denver United States National Bank. Neil was general chairman of the 1968 United Way campaign and in recognition of his superb direction was elevated to president of the fund for 1969. Bob Priester '49 also of Neil's bank was promoted from vice president to senior vice president. If the Club runs out of money we ought to be able to float a loan.
Also in the money game, but a stock broker, Bob Woodberry '54 who is the Denver manager of Dean Witter & Co., was elected a vice president of that firm. When not working Bob devotes a lot of time to the Art Museum. He is really more interested in living art as his charming wife is the former Miss Colorado.
The other night as this writer was watching TV his eye was caught by handsome Rick Rickenbaugh '28 playing with a cute little crippled girl. Rick was doing his bit as campaign chief raising funds for the Sewall Rehabilitation Center. He is also Neil's right hand man on the Third Century Fund.
Our January luncheon was moved forward to February 6 so we could hear Mr. Thomas A. Mikula explain what Dartmouth has been doing over the past five years in expanding the ABC program to other campuses and towns. Mr. Mikula is director of the program and is master in charge of the ABC house in Hanover. The boys go to Hanover High School and are tutored nightly by three Dartmouth students. There are houses in Lebanon, Andover, North Andover; the ABC house in the June houses ten Indian students (that will please old Eleazar). Each of these houses is provided with three students who live with the boys and do the tutoring. The tutors are changed every term and the students get term credit for their work. They also get valuable experience in human relations. Mr. Mikula drew the largest luncheon group in a year and those who came were well rewarded.
After lunch Bob Woodberry '54 hustled Mr. Mikula to a meeting Bob had arranged with the Urban League. Unfortunately Lester Granger '18 who has devoted his entire life to helping the Negro cause could not be present.
