I'm gradually getting back into the swing of things; my first day back at the office, after spending much of February benefitting from the miracles of modern medicine and getting to appreciate the dedication and talent of the various people in that profession, was highlighted by a visit from GeneCarver who was making an Eastern business trip on behalf of Western Mortgage Corporation.
We have received an announcement of the marriage of W. Brooks Boyce to Joan Beatrice Vraney, which took place in Wauwatosa, Wis., on February 22. Welcome to the Fabulous Fifty clan, Joan! The Boyce homestead is 4534 North Teutonia Avenue, Milwaukee.
Dr. David R. Fink Jr., dean of the University of Maine in Portland since 1965, has been named provost of the Portland campus. Dave now has responsibility for general supervision of all activities on the campus as its chief administrator, and also is deeply involved with long-range planning, development, and community relations.
Ed Gulick also is closely associated with the Pine Tree State, having purchased Interstate Despatch Inc. in 1968. This trucking company has operating authority that runs from Greater Boston to Bangor, Me., and now is the fastest growing truck line in that area. Izzy Stahl recently was in Washington for a symposium of Latin American foundations. He is a trustee of Guatemala's Penny Foundation, which makes loans to the underprivileged; these are repaid by communities at the rate of one or two pennies per family. Izzy went on to New York, where he chanced to meet Bob Thomson, and also chatted with Ozzie Osborn by phone; Oz was making plans to visit Guatemala.
A recent "Pittsburgh Folio" featured a series of excellent photographs of children taken by professional photographer ChuckR. Martin at the Home for Crippled Children. the Western Pennsylvania School for Blind Children and various United Fund agencies.
Locally, Culver Modisette has been elected president of the alumni organization of Kingswood School, West Hartford. This is but one of Cul's civic and educational activities, which also includes work on Dartmouth's Third Century Fund. To put bread on the table, Cul toils as vice president of Chirug & Cairns, Inc., an advertising and public relations agency with offices in New York, Boston and Hartford.
James D. Vail has been named director of training, general Office, for the American Hospital Supply and Scientific Products divisions of the American Hospital Supply Corporation. Jim previously was the corporation's regional manager in Charlotte, N. C.
Phil Kent has been appointed to the faculty of the Hyde Park, Mass., high school, where he is teaching social studies.
Don Cook of Tarrytown, N. Y., came across a catalog of music in which the first entries of the Music Minus One organization (43 West 61st Street, New York, N. Y. 10023) into book publishing was reported. The books are by Vin Hill, entitled "The Styles and Techniques of Popular Piano Playing" and "Developing Your Own Popular Piano Style"; they cost $2.50 each.
Lt. Col. Larry Perry is assigned to Brook General Hospital, Fort Sam Houston, San Antonio, Texas, where he is assistant chief Anesthesia and Operation Service; he also is involved in the Apollo project, as a medical member of the recovery team. Larry's previous assignment involved a year in Viet Nam.

Now that Interstate Route 91 is the most efficient way to travel up the Connecticut River Valley, the towns along old Route 5 may be easily bypassed. In one way this is unfortunate, for we may tend to forget such quaint and historic communities as "Old Deerfield," Mass., which also is the home of Deerfield Academy. Phil Charron is a member of Deerfield's faculty, teaching French coaching, and supervising a corridor of seniors. There are a number of Deerfield alumni in the Class of '50 ranks, Phil - including yours truly - and well make it a point to : pay a visit in the near future.
Phil reports that he has made a number of trips to France in recent years. Harry Foster, of Baltimore, is doing much the same thing; currently he and Liliane are spending his sabbatical at her parents' home in Wihr-en-Plaine, near Colmar in the Alsace Region.
Doctors Paul Lena and Phil Brown got together in Rochester, Minn., in early December. Paul journeyed there from Concord, N. H., as a member of the Dartmouth Medical School Alumni Council, which met for the first time away from Hanover; a conducted tour of the Mayo Clinic was provided, followed by a social visit with Phil and Ginny.
Clint Mauk is vice president of operations of the First National Bank of Toledo. Deal- ing with computers, 14 branches and new construction is keeping him busily occupied. He, Pat and their 4 children live at 715 E. Boundary St., Perrysburg, Ohio.
Frank Lion joined the Penn Mutual life insurance sales force in the Syracuse, N. Y., area, after retiring from the military. He was the local chairman for the Glee Club concert which was held there on March 22.
William "Duke" Sholten has joined the Merchandise National Bank in Chicago as vice president and commercial lending officer. He was formerly a vice president of Drexel National Bank in Chicago. Previously he was assistant cashier of the LaSalle National Bank also in Chicago and was associated with the First National Bank of Chicago. He makes his home in Northfield, Ill., with Joan and their four children.
