Allen H. Britton Jr. of Norwich, Vt., and Wallace J. Farr of Lyme Road, Hanover, have accepted the co-chairmanship of our 30th Reunion. This masterpiece is scheduled for June 1972, only two years and a few months from now! Prexy Dick Lippman made the announcement several weeks ago, with the added comment that "It's just about the right time to start preliminary planning and Al and Wally will be at the May Class Officers' meetings this year to start the ball rolling." Dick's announcement came from his new address at 1001 Livezey Lane, Philadelphia, Pa. 19119.

At the same time our Class President stated that our class project has run into a snag, and has been discontinued. Lippman said "As you know, we sponsored a course last year in the college's Experimental College. Called 'Careers and Conscience,' it was an attempt to create a dialogue between the undergraduates and members of our class. Dick Cardozo, chairman of the committee, deserves high praise for his work and the quality of the program which was due in no small way to the quality of the panelists he enlisted from our - ranks. However, this year we are faced with certain obstacles that could not be overcome, so the project had to be abandoned. Without going into details, first of all, Dick assumed new responsibilities at the Medical School so his time was completely taken up; secondly, it seems that the undergraduates time is also at a premium in Hanover, with so many different kinds of cultural and entertainment activities scheduled every night of the week in Hopkins Center and elsewhere that it appeared unlikely that we could repeat a similar program and hope for any improvement in attendance; thirdly, it was beginning to look like the Experimental College was running out of steam; and, lastly, it could be that discussions trying 'to bridge the generation gap' were becoming old hat and overdone...."

Dick Lippman continued ... "So ... here we are without a class project! And, to my way of thinking that's like a ship without a rudder! Every class should have a purpose, a commitment... and the years between reunions should not be purposeless voids. We should commit ourselves to something constructive, something positive, something that contributes to the College's welfare or to the community's welfare, something that the Class can identify itself with and be proud of the association. If we can do this, great! If we can do it without costing much money, wonderful! But what we need are ideas. And the floor is open to anyone in the Class who has one."

Dick goes on to say that these ideas should be passed along to any of the class officers or members of the '42 executive committee, in order that a decision as to a new class project may be made at the executive committee meeting in May.

To start the wheels turning, here are some examples of class projects ...: '25 endowed a faculty chair; '26 sponsors a rare book collection; '35 underwrites the costs of concerts or plays in Hopkins Center; '39 paid for a football field scoreboard; '50 plants trees; '52 works with ghetto youths; '56 established a foreign student scholarship,... and so on.

If you want to send your class project ideas to Dick Lippman, directly, we repeat, his new address is 1001 Livezey Lane, Phila., Pa. 19119.

The Personal Trust Department of Lincoln Rochester Trust Co. has promoted Vincent B. Tibbals to the position of assistant vice president - estate planning section. Tibbals has been with Lincoln Rochester for seven years, having become assistant trust officer in 1964. George Hinkley, our faithful class ex-secretary, sent the news clipping on Vince.

A news clipping from the "New Rochelle (N. Y.) Standard-Star" pictures our William H. Gray of 20 Beechtree Lane in Pelham Manor and states that he was appointed to the Zoning Board of Appeals. Will has been chairman of the Planning Board since April 1967. He is the president of Goodnough-Gray, investment counselors.

From the "Stafford Press" in Connecticut comes an item stating that Richard L. Rugen has been promoted to vice president for manufacturing of the Warren Woolen Company. Dick has been with the firm since 1946.

The Class of '42 extends a warm welcome to John G. Kemeny as 13th President of Dartmouth College.
