How about that John Tobin?... Being featured on the "Today Show," on morning television, with Hugh Downs and Joe Garagiola! He was being interviewed in mid-February on skiing and matters related to his book, "The Fall Line: A Skier's Journal." "Tobe" seemed as cool on television as he is on the slopes.... The book has attracted interest on the part of prospective skiers and those who ski, around the country. Meredith Press is the publisher, and the book has a strong Dartmouth orientation.

Some of you know that Matt Rapf has been in charge of Talent Associates' motion-Picture Picture wing on the West Coast.... He has been signed by Paramount TV production chief, Douglas S. Cramer, as producer of hour-iong "The Young Lawyers," one of four vid-series Paramount is preeming next fall. This from "Variety" out of Hollywood, Calif. Rapf, who produced such series as "Ben Casey" and "Slattery's People" for Bing Crosby Productions, also was signed to develop new projects for Paramount. The series stars Lee J. Cobb.
March brought news that Carl H. Holekamp Jr. has been elected president of the Southwestern Lumbermen's Association. The election took place recently at the annual meeting in Kansas City. Wah-hoo-wah! We are glad to hear about this kind of news, particularly when it happens to a modest guy like Carl! The days fly quickly... seems that only yesterday we were reporting his election as Veep.
A change of jobs for Bill oppenheimer, who has been appointed corporate insurance manager of Gambles, a Minneapolis-based merchandising company. He had previously been employed by Archer Daniels Midland Company for 25 years. Through the years he served the milling company as a foreman, project engineer, plant manager, labor relations manager, personnel manager, and most recently as manager of the insurance and payroll departments.

Brown, Chairman of the Class of '17... for their correspondence and news notes relating to '42's during recent weeks.
FROM NEW HAMPSHIRE TO ALABAMA. ... Dr. James O'Shea contributed to rational thinking about drug abuse at a recent New Hampshire Drug Abuse Workshop reported in the "Manchester Union Leader." Jim, a Laconia native now associated with Reality, Inc., a rehab center for addicts in Lawrence, Mass., said, "Permissiveness is one of the worst illnesses in our society today. Parents and an affluent society gave the children everything... the kids became bored and decided to experiment with drugs." ... His view is that parents can best express their love for children by providing discipline He feels that the "kids on college campuses today who do not belong, rebel. And when they are rebelling they are actually crying for discipline. College presidents should listen but have the guts to discipline them."
Dr. James Woodworth has assumed duties as Colbert County, Ala., Health Officer. A native of New Hampshire, Woodworth took over the vacancy created by the retirement of Dr. R. E. Harper several months ago. Harold attended Dartmouth Med, Harvard Med, and later earned his Ph.D. in microbiology from Yale. The last several years were spent with the U. S. Public Health Service in Atlanta. His two sons are currently serving in the Navy.
While on the subject of medical men serving our society, a word about Dr.Thomas W. McElin, chairman of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of Evanston Hospital and president of the Chicago Gynecological Society. Tom has been chosen president-elect of the Central Association of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. The Central Association is the largest regional honor society in Ob-Gyn in the United States. Membership is limited to 500 specialists in the field in the 28 central states.
Gordon Newell has been appointed director of underwriting and an officer of the Paul Revere Companies. "Gus" joined the Worcester, Mass., insurance firms in 1945 as a claims examiner. He moved to underwriting in 1946, was named chief underwriter in 1949, and manager of underwriting in 1967.
Robert P. Wilson of Millburn, N. J., is moving to Greensboro, N. C. He is responsible for all commercial relationships between the U.S. Army and Western Electric on the Nike-X Missile Defense Project. His son, Peter, is headed for Tufts or Bucknell and son, John, is at Rutgers University.
Dr. Hans Huessy's son, Marc, was being held, at latest report, under "investigative arrest" in an East German jail. Marc, one of eleven children, had been in Germany since last August. Hans has had no contact with his son since his arrest. The son had been doing a thesis on the Brecht Theater in East Berlin and had gone to view a show at that theater when he was arrested. He was also doing a paper on the children of resistance leaders hanged by the Nazis.
Dr. Leroy L. Eldredge Jr. of Hingham, Mass., has been appointed to the Committee on School Health of the American Academy of Pediatrics, a committee responsible for informing pediatricians of trends, developments, and policies in school health and for encouraging state and local pediatric leadership in school health programs.
When a son of one Dartmouth '42 gets engaged to the daughter of another Dartmouth '42 that's news! Mr. and Mrs. DavidHeald of Elkins, N. H., have announced the engagement of their daughter, Sally, to Mr. Peter Hill Winship, son of Mr. and Mrs. Addison L. Winship II of Hanover. Peter will complete his studies as a senior economics major at the University of New Hampshire this year. A late summer wedding is planned.
Now I ask you, wouldn't it be logical to appoint a Dartmouth man, John D. Brewster, no less, to the town council to fill an unexpired term in Nichols, Conn.? That must be near Trumbull.... Well, that's what happened recently....
