As I write this it is the end of August, but a chill wind today brings thoughts of fall. The summer has passed all too quickly and now I am back at my job of bringing you news of your classmates. I would hope that many of you would make a new resolve to help me in this effort by communicating with me.

The first order of business this year is a loud round of snaps for Alumni Fund Agent, Bob Eleveld, for the exceptional job he did in leading us to a third place finish in the Green Derby. We were outclassed only by '60 and '63, but the total amount received was second only to '60 and substantially above the other classes in our group. Thanks to all the agents who worked so hard to make this drive a success.

We look forward to seeing many of you at the football games this fall. It should be a fine season and certainly an interesting one with Jake Crouthamel as new head coach. The word around Boston is that Harvard's new coach will be a crowd pleaser and will try to out-Blackman Blackman. That should be quite a game. As usual we will have a cocktail party at the Ramada Inn right after the game and we hope you will have time to drop in. The following weekend is the Yale game in Hanover and we expect to picnic at Dave Bradley's office across from the Leverone Field House.

We are grieved to learn of the death of Ted Roodner.

The lure of Hanover is indisputable and Ralph Manuel has returned again. He has been confirmed by the Board of Trustees of the College as Associate Dean of Freshman and Director of Counselling. Ralph was previously academic adviser at the General Curriculum Center, College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, University of Illinois. He holds the degree of master of education from Boston University and is a candidate for the Ph.D. in higher education administration at the University of Illinois. Previous to his Illinois position he was a National Defense Education Act Fellow at the Institute for Advanced Study in Student Personnel Administration in Higher Education. From 1962-68 Ralph was assistant director of admissions at Dartmouth, having responsibility for the enrollment and admissions program of the College in two New England and 13 eastern and southeastern states. He also served as a member of the Trustee's Committee on Equal Opportunity and was responsible for recruitment of students from disadvantaged and culturally distinct backgrounds.

Time-Life Books announces the appointment of Paul Stewart as the new Director of Promotion for that company. Paul was formerly a writer reporter for Sports Illustrated and joined the book division of Time Inc. in 1968 as a writer in the promotion department. Prior to joining Time Inc. in 1961 Paul worked as a writer reporter on the Hackensack, N. J. Record, and for two years as an assistant buyer at Blooming-dale's in New York. Paul and his wife Vivienne live in Closter, New lersey with their two children Colin and Caitlin.

The U. S. Senate has confirmed President Nixon's recent nomination of StephenDawkins for promotion to Class 4 in the U. S. Foreign Service. Steve entered the Foreign Service in 1963 and has been stationed in Washington, D. C., and Tokyo, Japan. He is presently assigned to the Department of State as Country Officer for Japan. In January, 1971 he received the Department's Meritorious Honor Award in Tokyo for "sustained superior performance." Steve and his wife Joyce have two children, Holly, age 7 and Linda, age 4.

The Rev. Carl McCall has been named chairman of the Editorial Page Board of the New York Amsterdam News. Since 1963 Carl has been on the staff of the New York City Christian Mission Society. During the last primary election he worked to give Blacks and Puerto Ricans a political voice by encouraging them to register and vote. He is currently Chairman of the Citizens Voter Education Committee.

Dave Badger has been appointed the new Headmaster of the Key School. He has been principal of the upper school of Pembroke Country Day School in Kansas City, Mo.

Back in June Dave Brock delivered the commencement address at New England Aeronautical Institute and its division Daniel Webster Junior College. Dave is a United States Attorney, District of New Hampshire, an appointment by President Nixon. As United States Attorney, it is his duty to prosecute in the District all persons charged with crimes and offenses cognizable under the authority of the United States and all civil actions in which the United States is concerned. Prior to the appointment Dave was with the Manchester firm of Devine, Millimet, McDonough, Stahl & Branch. Dave, his wife Sandra, and their four children Kimberly, Deborah, Tammy, and Margaret Ann, live in Manchester. He is a member of the Mayor's Citizens Advisory Committee and the Manchester Industrial Council. He is also a member of the Manchester and American Bar Associations. He is President of the Manchester Community Guidance Center and trustee, Manchester Boys' Club. He was named Captain, Marine Corps Reserve in 1963.

I hope to see many of you during football season. To those I don't I beg for some mail.
