The fall foliage here in New England this year has been truly spectacular. Our trip to the Penn game in Hanover next weekend should be very worthwhile with that added to Dartmouth's fine football performance so far. I hope many of you from outside the area have had a chance to see both.

Jane and I spent a very pleasant evening in September at the open house of Skip andCharlotte Harrington. Skip is finishing up his work on his degree in aeronautical engineering at Boston University. They and their three children are now neighbors of ours at Ten Dean Road in Wellesley Hills.

Ted Merritt has been appointed business administrator of the Stratford, Conn., public school system. Ted did graduate work in guidance at Rutgers University and received his M.S. in education at the University of Bridgeport. He is finishing his doctoral work in educational administration at Teachers College of Columbia University. His dissertation is entitled, "Planning and Training as Strategies for Change Relative to the Introduction of Electronic Data Processing in Selected Connecticut Schools Districts." Ted and Linda have three sons: Thomas, five, Andy, two and David, who was born April 20. In addition to the above, Ted is past superintendent of the Church School at Lordship Community Church, a past member of the Board of Governors of the Black Rock Yacht Club in Bridgeport, and a past member of the Bridgeport DropOut Conference and the Big Brothers of Greater Bridgeport.

All you wives with free time during the day should tune in on "Search for Tomorrow," the popular daytime soap opera on CBS. John Edwards has been appointed associate producer of the show. Previous to this John was on the directing staff of WCBS-TV in New York and with the educational station WNDT. John received his M.A. in drama from the Yale School 01 Drama in 1962. .

Dr. Ted Harris has been keeping the medical world up to date on new developments. In May Ted, who is a clinical and research fellow in medicine at the arthritis unit of the Mass. General Hospital in Boston, conducted the 32nd free arthritis clinic at the Martha's Vineyard Hospital under the sponsorship of the Arthritis Foundation. I'm also told that in October he delivered a paper on Rheumatology in Prague at the annual meeting of the International Association of annula meeting of the combining it with a short visit to Austria, Switzerland, and Portugal. Ted holds a special postdoctoral fellowship from the National Institute of Arthritis and Metabolic Disease.

A little belated news comes to us that Dexter Faunce became president of Security Planners, Ltd. Inc. of Boston back in March of this year. He has been with the company since 1968. Dexter and his wife Joan are residents of Norwell, Mass.

The Glens Falls, N. Y. Times reports that Rabbi Thomas Liebsehutz who served as the spiritual leader of Temple Beth El of that city has been called to the pulpit of Temple Emanu-El, in Wichita, Kan. After receiving his B.A. in history at the University of Rochester and Albany Law School, Tom's religious training was done at Hebrew Union College where he received his Master of Arts degree in Hebrew Literature. As part of his training he served as student rabbi of congregations in Hamiliton, Ohio; Muskogee, Okla.; and Dubuque, lowa. He served in Chicago where he was co-sponsor of a successful social action project, STEP (Student Tutorial Enrichment Program) which brought greater -understanding between white and black children. Rabbi Liebsehutz and his wife Marilyn have one son, Philip.

Some more belated news - Harry Dodds was commencement speaker at Trenton State College in New Jersey last June. Harry, Deputy Commissioner in charge of legal matters for the New York City Police Department supervises 30 attorneys in the city's legal division and is responsible for the department's legislative program.

Dick Harris has an unusual new title: he's director of game product research at the Milton Bradley Company, of "Monopoly" fame. He recently switched to games from Procter and Gamble in Cincinnati, where he served as a brand manager. He joined Procter and Gamble immediately after erceiving his M.B.A, from Tuck School in 1959. Be sure to let us know your new address, Dick, when you get Jean and sons Scott and Bradley settled in the Springfield, Mass., area.

Jerry Manne wrote me a very welcome letter this summer from River Forest, Ill.: "On Friday, June 20, 1969 I was privileged to be in Cleveland to serve as best man in the wedding of Kurt Wegelius and Miss Jeannette Rahal of Cleveland, Ohio. Relatives and friends traveled from both the east and west coasts, but honors for the longest road trip went to Kurt's father, Mr. Roy Wegelius who came in from Cordova, Alaska, for the wedding. After a three-week trip to and through the Pacific Northwest, the Wegeliuses will make their home in Cleveland where Kurt is associated with the S.D. Warren Division of Scott Paper Company." Thanks, Jerry.

While Walt Vail mentioned the letter from Vince Hovanec who is with the American Embassy in Guyana, I would like to quote some of the more interesting parts of a very worthwhile letter: "Our daughter's name is Mandy and she joined us just before Christmas 1968, thanks to some friends >n the Peace Corps. Mandy is eight years old (born January 17, 1961 in a little village °n the Guyana-Brazil border), a delightful black haired, bronze colored Ameri-Indian child who has made a beautiful transition from a thatched hut village 300 miles from Georgetown to eating hamburgers and hot dogs and learning about the USA. At the same time, we've taken rather well to the role of parents, we think. Much of that is because of Mandy, who's blessed with a sparkling personality and a bright, questioning mind. Mandy is of Arawak heritage, the same people who prompted Christopher Columbus to write that they showed "as much lovingness as though they would give their hearts.' Mandy has given her heart to us and we have given ours to her." Betty continues "At USIS, Vince has been keeping busy, handling press arrangements during the visit of Governor Nelson Rocke-feller of New York and the successful Apollo 11 mission which captured the imagination of all Guyanese. He's grown a slightly drooping mustache and sideburns, since there's obviously no chance of growing anything on top of his head! He claims his squash game has improved, although his waistline has been fighting only a 'holding action.' In the spring, Vince received a promotion to a Class 5 Foreign Service Officer and the extra dollars have come in handy."

That's the news until next month when I will be reporting on those I run into at some of the football games. Until then, keep the letters coming in.
