In an effort to be redundant I will repeat NOW IS THE TIME!!!! Make your reservatiins now!!!! Dartmouth's first annual alumni Ski Weekend taking place March 5, 6 and 7 is your class project and we hope you will support it. At $80 per couple it is a steal for a ski weekend and should be great fun. As a little addition to the program we will have the film, "Americans on Everest," on Saturday night. This fantastic expedition included many Dartmouth men and two from our class, Barry Corbet and Dave Ding-man. Barry, who is helping us get the film tells me that this 54-minute film narrated by Orsen Wells won first prize at the Trento Film Festival. Get your group together now!
Now back to business ... Jim Young has become the youngest headmaster of Hawken School in Cleveland, Ohio. Jim has been acting headmaster since July when the previous headmaster resigned. The school was founded in 1915 and has 390 pupils in kindergarten through eighth grade on the Lyndhurst campus and 247 ninth through twelfth grade- students on the Chester campus. Jim says that "Hawken's trademarks have always been the stresses toward the individual student and the freedom of each individual. The heart of this program is that each student decides what and when he wants to do something. There is always guidance from the teacher, but the choice is left to each student and each learns at his own speed. It's a very effective program, and we have found that other students pitch in and help a student learn." After graduating from Dartmouth Jim taught mathematics and wrestling at the Cranbrook School, Bloomfield Hills, Mich. He was at Hawken from 1961 to 1965, leaving to get his master's degree from Wesleyan and then became assistant headmaster of the Woodstock Country Day School in Woodstock, Vt. He returned to Hawken in [967. Jim and his wife Susanna have three children, Stephen, 10, Katherine, 9 and Matthew, 6. They live on the upper school campus and their two boys attend Hawken.
L A card received from Don McNellis tells me that he has just finished three years as obstetrician with the USAF Hospital in Wiesbaden, Germany and will resume civilian life by studying at the School of public Health, University of North Carolina.
Dan Andretta writes from Klamath Falls, Ore., that he moved there from Casper, Wyo., to "avoid the awful Wyoming winters and for baseball and new country ... have found all ... winters mild, beautiful mountain-lake country and more baseball than I know what to do with." Dan is teaching a Junior-Senior course in physical geology and earth science. He is also offensive back coach in football, freshman basketball coach. As if that were not enough he coaches summer baseball in "this youth baseball capital of the world ... took my team to finals in state ... but lost to Lake Oswego." Dan and his wife Yonna have three children.
The United Penn Bank in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., announces the election of ClarkeBittner as a vice president on the official staff of the bank. Clarke will be responsible for the business development and marketing activities of the bank. Until recently he was vice president of marketing for Kanarr Corporation of Kingston, Pa., and previous to that was in marketing with the Amecom Division of Litton Industries in Washington, D. C. I also received a welcome letter from "Cack" and want to pass some of it on to you. "How does one begin a letter such as this after a personal contributory void of over twelve years? Upon receipt of each issue., of the ALUMNI MAGAZINE, I eagerly turn to the class notes and delight in reading of the various exploits, professional accomplishments, and social contributions of our classmates. Yet I have never responded to your many calls for letters. Perhaps, like others, I consider my experiences rather insignificant compared to those of our fellow '58s." (No accomplishment is too small, idea too unimportant, or exploit too uninteresting— we're all interested. Sec.) "Historically, in brief, I returned to- my hometown, Lemoyne, Pa., after graduation. That August I married Joanne Schmeiss (Hitchcock '58). After active duty with the Army, and following some five years association with two small Pennsylvania electronics firms, in January 1964, I accepted a position with Litton Industries. ... Came to Northeast Pennsylvania last year. We love this part of the country—great people (you never meet a stranger, always a friend), marvelous scenery, fascinating history, fantastic community spirit, dynamic industrial development (precipitated by the virtual demise of the hard coal mining industry twenty years ago).
"We are somewhat active—Joanne, in several organizations including Newcomer's, PTA, Cub Scouts; I as PTA President, Cub Scout executive committee chairman, chairman of Church facilities committee, Little League baseball coach to mention some.
"Our family is now full size (knock on wood) at three sons (more to preserve sanity than to aid in population control)— John A., 9; Clarke S., 7; and Alfred J., 4. The best way to describe these three young Pennsylvania Dutch delightful children is to say that my mother wished them on me!!!
"In closing, the bar is stocked, the hearth is warm, the welcome mat is out to any and all '58's."

I ran into Pete and Judy Van last week. Peter is a partner in the Boston Law firm of Fine and Ambrogn and was instrumental in the conception and setting up of the Stadium Trust for the new Shaeffer Stadium in Foxboro, Mass., which our lowly Boston Patriots football team will call home. After years of city council bickering and politics and almost losing the team, Peter and his associates came up with the legal package that enabled the stadium to go ahead and should serve as a model for other new stadiums. Maybe you can do something about the calibre of the Patriot's play, Pete. Peter and Judy with their two children live in Newton, Mass.
Don't forget the ski weekend, March 5, 6, 7.
