Jim and Mary Colton had a picnic at their place in Webster. Present were Dickand Kay Parkhurst, Art and MarionMarsden, Marjorie Craver, Parker Hayden and his sister. They had a very enjoyable time together with perfect weather."

Paul and Margaret Wadleigh have been on their "semi-annual trip to Europe." They enjoyed lots of opera in Paris and Salzburg plus "Everyman" and other plays in German and a wonderful Mozart mass "in the universal language." Shorty Hitch-cock says he is getting older like the rest of us. He talked recently with Burt Lowe,John Stearns, Roger Evans and SpenceSully, but "has no news." That's good news, Shorty.

Parker Hayden took a "delightful drive" over from Rangeley into New Hampshire in the region of the Dartmouth College Grant and down along the Megalloway and Androscoggin, crossing over north of the Presidential Range, thence south to Strafford and West Fairlee, Tunbridge, Dorset and home through "another nice bit of country." Parker says "will see you later in the fall." Glad of it, Parker.

Jack Little has been fishing the North Platte in Wyoming and says "It was so hot the trout were hiding under rocks fanning themselves." Just wait, Jack. They'll come out. Jack and Marjorie Welch visited Hanover recently and called the secretary "repeatedly" with no results. He finally connected with us just as he had to leave for home. Sorry. Please try again, Jack. I was out picking elderberries. Bumper crop this year.

Ed and Ruth Kirkland entertained John and Elsie Stearns at their home on Thetford Hill the other day. The view is superb and so was the dinner. When we arrived Ed had his Dartmouth flag flying in front of the house and on the porch Ruth was ringing the bell from an old Boston and Maine locomotive, thus giving the impression that we were welcome. This turned out to be the case. You could tell.

Jim and Clara Shanahan with Mary Fuller spent a pleasant day with Dan Dinsmoor at his summer home on Winnepesaukee this fall. They also visited Betty and Phil Lewis at their 300 acre property in Center Barnstead where Dan Dinsmoor and Steve Harvey also were present. Lauraand Hi McClellan attended the graduation of their grandson from Suwannee, then drove to Ashville where they had a very enjoyable visit with Dave and MarionShumway. They have also recently visited West Texas and Colorado and plan another cruise next spring.

Dave Shumway says he and Marion had a good visit with Hi and LauraMcClellan. Later Hugo and VirginiaGunbart stopped to see them. Dave has also called on Ernie Frey who is recovering from a cataract operation.

Israel Eigner's son Larry has had a new volume of poems published under the title "Larry Eigner: Selected Poems. Edited by Samuel Charters and Andrea Wyart." Congratulations, Larry. Phil Nordell points out that if you reverse two digits in 1916 you have 1961. Phil's nephew David Dickey '61 married Polly Stoner, niece of Phil's wife Julia. They have settled in Greencastle, Penn., where Dave practices law. Wilberforce Sully has retired from law practice but has become a volunteer legal consultant to the Widows' Consultation Center in New York City. RussellLeavitt attends church in Tryon, S. C., where he finds the congregation "very cordial" including Roy Burghardt. He and Edith had a "busy summer gardening etc." before leaving for their winter home in De Land, Fla.

That's all the news the secretary has this month. Too bad. Makes me envious of Sam Foss over in Beaver Meadow. One day during foliage season Sam's store was so chuck full of customers that he lost his bearings for a minute there. Started throwing money in the cuspidor and spitting tobacco juice in the cash register. The secretary might do the same if he had that many customers.

Secretary, 3 Downing Rd. Hanover, N. H. 03755

Treasurer, Singletary Ave., Sutton, Mass. 01527
