By the time you read this I hope that I will have seen a number of you at a football game or other gathering, but if I miss and you see some of our classmates drop me a line with names, etc. Fortunately the response to the mailing for the revision of the address book has been pretty good but I can use any news you might have. If I have any surplus I'll pass it along to Tithe. Some of the information is mystifying—viz: who are Dave and Shirley with no last name and no address along with an undescipherable postmark. Two have been returned empty of any notation and several are difficult but fortunately not completely impossible to read. However you do it, we would still like to have them back as we are approaching the deadline. By now also the one who said "Pray for McGovern" will know if his prayers have been answered and the one who threatens to move to South America if McGovern is elected will know if he has to start packing.
I have not yet received from the College a list of '36 offspring at Hanover this fall but I do have some names from the cards received to which I will add later if necessary. From the class of '72, Don, son of Ken Langler in first year at Thayer and Jonathan, son of Stan Osgood in second year at Tuck. Class of '73 Ted, son of WaltMertz first year Tuck; Mike, son of NorbHofman; Baxter, son of Bax Fullerton; Richard Jr., son of Dick Heffler; Victor Jr., son of Vic Kiarsis; Class of '74, Peter, son of Basil Coutrakon, Class of '75, John, son of Jesse Gait; Jonathan, son of GeneKern; Chris, son of Stan Osgood. And Class of '76, Nina, daughter of DickDorrance. I think we should also add Bill, (son of Bill Martens) who was '6B and is now at Tuck for his MBA, and Gary, son-in-law of Bob Frank who is just out of the Navy and in first year of Tuck. A late note from the advance copy of Tithe which you will receive in October also mentions Henry, son of Hank Dearborn as a senior at Dartmouth.
In case you missed it Tithe also covered Alumni College which was attended this year by Norb and Pic Hofman, Georgeand Nancy McCleary and Pete andBarbara Fitzherbert from the Class.
Among the numerous lawyers in the Class is Ed Redington who lives in Islip, N. Y., and is a senior partner of Hughes, Hubbard & Reed at One Wall Street, New York City. Ed and his wife Jody have a son Edward on the administrative staff at Miami of Ohio, a daughter Randall married to Rev. Donald McPhail, and John who entered Roanoke College this fall. In addition to his law practice Ed has been vice president of the Board of Education in Bay Shore and Chairman of the Board of Zoning Appeals in the Village of Brightwaters. He is also on the vestry of St. Peter's Episcopal Church. Last April he was elected President of Southside Hospital, a 500 bed voluntary non-profit hospital in Bayshore, N. Y. For recreation, has a 44' sport fisherman at a dock on his property on which he cruises the Chesapeake or New England coast in search of tuna, marlin, blue fish, and the like. He reports occasional success in his endeavors.
Another of our legal lights is Art Levin who says he is "semi-retired and only goes three days a week to the office" of Fink, Weinberger, Levin, and Charney, Fifth Avenue, New York. He and Betty have a son Ted, Dartmouth '68 now interning in Palo Alto, a daughter Leslie who was awarded a fellowship to Brown where she is earning both an M.A. & Ph.D., and Andy who is a junior at Harvard living in a Radcliff dorm! Phil Gilbert and his wife Jody live in Ossining and he practices law at Gilbert, Segall, and Young in N.Y.C. Perhaps some of you noticed his name in connection with the recent Rolls Royce receivership related to Lockheed Aircraft or the IT & T hearing relative to Mr. Kleindienst in Washington. Phil represented ITT and Rolls-Royce. He reports son lohn '69 is with Travelers Insurance, daughter Mary is married and living in Paris painting, and son Clinton is at home painting houses.
Ralph Cockroft reports no changes since the last directory, however his three offspring have alt been in the Peace Corps; one in Malaysia, one in Senegal, (both now teaching high school), one still in Iran. ZebWhite has resigned from Yale and set up his own firm in Hammond, La. for consulting forestry. Dick Crosby, Professor of English at Colby Jr. College reports seeing Henry Mascarello interviewed on TV. Henry and his wife Constance live in Lexington, Mass. He is Executive Director of the Massachusetts Correctional Association and has had a long and important career in the field of prison reform. JimTindle with three married daughters and six grandchildren reports that now that Dartmouth is coed he thinks his chances of having a relative attend the College are improved.
Among the many interesting bits of information coming in to me on the return cards and which really deserve more explanation if I had any additional information are the following: Dean Worcestor, unmarried, lives in Crownsville Md. and is a schooner Captain. Art Davidson when asked "what's new?" says "just took 115 Music for Youth (15-20 yrs) boys and girls to Lausanne, Switz to music festival, then on to Yugoslavia for a week. Otherwise nothing." I find it difficult if not impossible to manage my own three. There really should be more details given us on these two items.
