As 1971 fades into memory and we face another "new" year, we can look back on this past year as one when momentous decisions were made which will afreet the College and thus our Class from now on. It remains to be seen when the Alumni Fund for 1972 starts how strong the feeling will be that has already been expressed by a few of our classmates concerning the coeducational question, even though it is now an accomplished fact which we all must face. I'll urge you all to support our new Class Agent, Frank Curtis, as he tackles his difficult job for the first time, even though you may have strong feelings on the matter.
While we are still talking about money, I think it appropriate to mention that Treasurer Ed Higbee has passed along to me a number of comments relative to our recent class dues increase. You may recall the stated purpose was to use the extra funds for a project at the College which the Class Executive Committee and the College might consider appropriate, such as continued support for the Indian project which we supported previously. The comments have been both pro and con, but we urge you to contact Ed, the writer, or President Ray Builter if you have any questions, rather than just drop off the class list of dues paying members.
We have a good note from Bill Pounder and his wife Isabella who attended our 35th with roommate Bill Murray and wife Arlene. Bill Pounder reports that his two daughters, Penny and Paula, are at the University of Denver. They ski often at Larry Jump's Arapahoe Basin and love it. Bill is still with the Army Natick Labs, Natick, Mass., and has had three visits to Vietnam of 4-6 months each as a civilian military adviser (clothing, boots, headgear sizing for Vietnamization). As a sideline Bill is in a partnership building condominium townhouses at West Harwich on Cape Cod, 26 of which will hopefully be completed by June. Bill . Murray is an attorney and Clerk of Courts in Milford, Mass. He and Arlene have five children: Bill Jr. in law school, Sharon a teacher at N.Y.U., Peter with Southern Airlines in Atlanta, Carlotta at the University of Hartford, and Brian in 7th grade. The Murray family vacations at Newport, R. I.
Paul Lynch and Cathie came to Reunion but were only able to get to the Princeton game. Son Barry is back from Vietnam and Paul reports that three daughters still in school preclude any thought of retirement. He does find time to a member of the Planning and Zoning Board of Appeals of Greenwich. Roy Bersengren reports that he is still at Daytona Beach (Fla.) Community College. He has been president for eleven years. Son David '68 has completed three years as a Navy lieutenant and is now traveling Europe as a civilian.
Dave Campbell reports from Pittsburgh that he expects special treatment since he is now a grandfather! His son David works for the State of California and has a daughter, second son John sells insurance in Pittsburgh, and daughter Coralee teaches school in Sunbury, Pa. Another even more recent grandfather is Bob Jarbeau. Bobs son Dick and his wife had a son last August. While speaking of sons, a note from Jim Gidney, who teaches at Kent State University in Kent, Ohio, mentions son Jimmy celebrating his fifth birthday on October 1. I note also that Jim wondered some time ago if Jimmy is the youngest of the class children. I don't know but would welcome information from any of you in this regard.
Emil and Emily Hokanson, who live in Milwaukee where Emil practices law, did not expect to get to our last Reunion because they had just survived two weddings and two graduations in their family and Emil claimed to be broke. Considering the following, I can understand his problems. Oldest son Karl was completing final exams for Architecture, Kris had graduated from Oshkosh State University, his twin Kristina had married a Duke graduate in the fall, Karen had married a Duke graduate in the spring, and Kathleen had graduated from high school. I'm sure all of us fathers are sympathetic.
Another of our lawyers who hoped to make Reunion but didn't is Nox Howard who practices in New Britain, Conn. Eldest daughter Pam is a school teacher; Kathy, who attended Wells College, is spending her senior year in England; and John is a high school senior. Nox's wife Cherry is on the School Board after two years on the Common Council. Nox is chairman of a committee rebuilding the Boys' Club as well as helping a child psychiatric clinic get established. Golf in England and sailing in the Caribbean help pass the spare time. Iberia seems to be next on the agenda.
Some of the news we have of classmates is not exactly current, but we'll pass it along because it's the most up-to-date unless some of you help us out.
Bob Prentice '36 was on hand in Junewhen his son Dave '69 received his MBAdegree from Tuck School.
