That hot, slippery question, "Shall 'D' go coed" continues to be of real concern to a host of Tenners. We attended an Alumni gathering of the Eastern New York Association a few weeks ago and found emphatic opposition to the proposal. Of about 30-40 alumni present only a couple of younger alumni favored it. Bert Kent is at this writing checking the results of a poll of the Berkshire Valley Alumni.
As a result of action taken at the Class Officers' Weekend Conferences in Hanover, a special committee of representatives of the various Officers' groups was set up to meet with the Trustees. Herb Wolff was one of the pair of representatives from the bequest chairmen's group.
We had our own Class poll last June, with the following results: Our questions were: 1. Do you feel that the Alumni have been given full examination as to our attitude? Poll result: Yes 11, No 22, Undecided three. 2. Do you feel that the arguments favoring coeducation at "D" are convincing? Poll result: Yes 12, No 28. 3. Do you believe "D" would suffer in any real way if it is the only Ivy League College retaining its traditional all-male character? Poll result: Yes 5, No 34. 4. If taking in girls forced a reduction in the number of boys to be accepted, would you favor that? Poll result: Yes 4, No 40.
Question 4 produced a number of "no" answers from men who favor the introduction of coeducation. The comments of many of the men are interesting. These will be passed along to the Class in forthcoming issue of TENNER TOPICS.
Our losses by death during the past summer months are heavy. They include Reverend Bill Moe, Jim Everett, DallasSmith, Ken Phillips, and Art Rollins. All were strong in their interests in the Class and the College and they will be missed.
