Half-time Tenure
FEBRUARY 1972

Another Trustee action last month was approval of a recommendation of the Committee Advisory to the President that tenure appointments be accorded to "half-time" members of the Dartmouth faculty. This new system will make it possible for professors carrying less than a full teaching load to be assured of a longtime association with the College.

President Kemeny has called the plan particularly desirable, but not exclusively so, for women faculty members who might have simultaneous family commitments to maintain. It also increases the College's chances of obtaining the teaching services of distinguished educators who wish tenure but cannot commit themselves to full-time teaching loads.
