More than 13 tons of used paper, destined otherwise to contribute to the pollution almost inevitably associated with disposal of solid waste, have been recycled into the current CatalogueNumber of the College.

The 846-page Catalogue Number for 1971-72 is composed of all the 1971 Bulletin Series, from the General Information Bulletin to a booklet describing fellowships, prizes, honors, and degrees, bound together. Total circulation of the titles is more than 81,000.

Publication of the Catalogue Number in December marked the end of a year of successful experimentation for the College's publications. All the bulletins during 1971 were printed on "paper made from paper" by the Bergstrom Paper Company of Neenah, Wis.

"Dartmouth has been concerned with ecological problems for a long time" Josiah F. Hill '56, College Editor. commented "Our use of recycled paper for the official publications is just a new manifestation of that concern. Our present paper uses only about percent recycled paper. As soon as a 100 percent recycled sheet can be produced to fit our needs, we want to try it out."
