Standing Ovations, Yes! Standing Water, No!
As supporters of the football team look for second-time Dartmouth coach Buddy Teevens '79 to guide the Big Green to its best season in years, there's already plenty to cheer about. Planned for 2007, improvements to athletic facilities voted by the board of trustees in June include the replacement of Memorial Field's playing surface, shown here after saturating June rains. The new field will be "infill" turf, a synthetic much like grass but more weather-resistant and durable. The east stands will be reconfigured and overall seating reduced from about 20,000 to about 13,000 to accommodate a new $20 million varsity house facility to be used by all varsity teams. It will contain a strength-training center (meaning more space for recreational athletes at the Kresge Fitness Center), meeting rooms, office space and lockers.
