Spring '72 has been a busy time for the Dartmouth Alumni Association of Long island. Activities started with a general meeting featuring the Football Highlights of 1971. A goodly number of alumni and guests turned out for this session at the Garden City Casino. President Tom Kirby '60 presided and kept the evening jumping. Larry Schwartz '58 who has been appointed the Club's Job Placement Chairman, put in a strong pitch for alumni to let him know of job opportunities at all times of the year.
Next on schedule was the annual reception for accepted candidates. This year the affair was again held at the Salisbury Restaurant in Eisenhower Park. Our District Enrollment Director, Jack Jenness '44, was unable to attend but arrangements were made by Tom Kirby, Gordie McKernan '42, and Mike Pender '47.
Incidentally, the Club is most proud that Jack Jenness will be representing our area on the Alumni Council during the next two years. Congratulations again, Jack.
The climax of the year's events will be our annual garden party. This is being held June 18 in the sumptuous gardens at 91 Fourth Street, Garden City, the home of Fred Bachelder '40 and his charming wife Peggy. All arrangements are complete, thanks to the hard-working committee of Joel Ash '56, Fred Obrenski '48, RogerBaumberger '61, and Clark Brink '53.
This year the Club also inaugurated a new club award, known as the Dartmouth Cup, which will be given to the Long Island High School Lacrosse Coach of the .Year. At the time of this writing, the name of this year's winner is not known. (It is selected by the coaches themselves, voting in secret ballot). It is scheduled to be presented during intermission at the Annual Long Island Championship Lacrosse Game.
