Mid-April is the time of year for Dartmouth enrollment workers. Our class has a number of these but none surpasses the tireless efforts of Don Hummel. This year was no exception. He enjoyed another good year, as he was instrumental in convincing two fine scholar-athletes from New Trier East to accept the Big Green. He has been recruiting one of these for over five years. In his spare time Don is a vice president and division head of a Metropolitan Chicago Group at The Northern Trust Co. Another banker, George Briggs, has been elected a vice president of the First National Bank of Boston.

Dick Blanchard has been elected president of Wm. Blanchard Co. This is a leading New Jersey construction company founded by his great-great grandfather. Dick lives in New Vernon and commutes to work in Springfield. Rex Martin was appointed corporate controller of Van Schaak and Co. in Denver. He was assistant treasurer.

Elsewhere in the arena of public service, Dick Beading has been elected a trustee of James Prendergast Library in his hometown of Jamestown, N. Y. I presume his friend and neighbor, Art Wellman, true to his undergraduate habits, spends considerable time at that institution. Dick is executive vice president of Quality Markets, Inc. Shep Jackson is president of the Dartmouth Club of the Mid-Hudson, N. Y. area. He lives in Poughkeepsie.

As this is written the Alumni Fund campaign is half over. 55 is doing very well so far. I hope we will have exceeded our 1972 goal of $32,980 by the time you read it. Success depends on you. Think hard about Dartmouth's role in your life past, present and future and then reward her accordingly. Please remember that in our undergraduate days, as now, about half the cost of education was paid by the generosity of others.
