There seems to be no end to 1930's enthusiasm for informal reunions. More than 140 classmates and wives were present for the Penn game weekend. At the Executive Committee meeting, Charlie Rauch was elected vice president of the Class. This office is to provide leadership in the event of the disability or death of the president. We are nearing our goal of $50,000 for the lectureship fund and it now appears definite that a Class of 1930 Fellow will be selected for 1974. No action was taken on the staging of a New York dinner, but there is a good chance that 1974 activities will include a March Florida reunion, an Ojai Valley Western gathering, and if a sponsor can be found, another summer picnic in the northeast area.
Jack Rich was lauded for his many years of service as bequest chairman. He is stepping down from that position, but he and Karl Rodi will serve as vice chairmen to the newly elected chairman Lee Chilcote. We were happy to have Hank Stein and Betty and Len Schmitz among the "haven't been around for awhile" attendees. Hank is owner of Red Butte Ranch in Aspen, and Len has retired as chairman and chief executive officer of Acme Visible Records Inc. and is living at Jensen Beach Florida.
At the Woodstock dinner, Class of 1930 Awards were presented to Bob Marr and WinStone with citations by Karl Rodi and FranHorn. Although Win has retired from NYU, he has received a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities which will enable him to complete his biography of David Garrick. Ellie and John French again hosted a cocktail party high above the Woodstock plain. The Woodstock Inn has reserved a block of rooms for next year's reunion, October 11 and 12 which will probably be the Princeton weekend.
With sorrow we report the death of CarlosNestler in September and George Steers in October, Our sympathy is extended to their families and to John Maitland in the death of his wife Janet.
Fred Moller writes "Although we will continue to spend the summer at our home in Mendon Vermont, we will probably migrate south with the advent of autumn foliage and renew our enjoyment of the superb fishing in the Fort Pierce-Stuart area. Last winter we watched with some impatience the construction of our home on the North Fork of the St. Lucie River while our double cabin Swedish cruiser spent too much time at our dock." Ken Lynch. "We spend half our time in Lebanon and the rest here in St. Petersburg. We are beachcombers. No Children. Haven't worked since retirement from Veterans' Administration at White River in 1968." Snub Poehler. "Mary and I are thoroughly enjoying retirement and living in Ogunquit. Both of us have found plenty to do and we continue to enjoy travel. Our daughter Ann French lives in Westfield, Mass. Her husband Larry is on the staff at Westfield State College and is coach of tennis."
Don Shaskan reports that he and Frances and daughter Isabel have been traveling in England and Europe and that he has been elected Councillor for International Affairs, Deutsche Gruppenpsychotterapeutische Gesellschaft e.v. (DGG). Stan Zyskowski has retired from his position at Western Massachusetts Hospital. . . . In 1970 he married Alice Sanoski and they are living in Meriden Conn. Walt and MaryDresser, with George and Edie Frederickson sailed to Machias Seal Island in mid August "to visit with the Puffiins and Arctic Tern and celebrated Edie's birthday back in Lubec with hot lobster and Cold Duck."
Accounting for Florence and Lee Sturman's three sons: Stuart in Syracuse real estate, Jonathan '64 with Eastern Gas and Fuel in Boston, and Emanuel '70 USNR in Japan. Lee's hobbies are travel, cross country skiing, a shack in the hills for summer weekends and wood cutting year round. Barbara and JimClark have ended their sojourn in Florida and are back in Agawam, Mass.
Fred Page. "Besides trying to keep up with my investment and financial consulting work, I have done extensive traveling in connection with some of my directorships. Our daughter with her three children lives right across the street from us (Glen Ridge) and our son with his four children lives seven miles away." Blair Wood (Waterloo). "Blair Jr. '63 is practicing law in Hanover. John '73 is the last of our four sons to graduate from Dartmouth in whatever category a 4.47 average places him. Eleanor retired recently from her position as a psychiatric social worker. We still ski regularly from our cabin in Colorado near Keystone ski development."
Bill Doran is Medical Director for Occupational Health for St. Elizabeth's Hospital, the National Institute of Mental Health, DH EW. "The interesting challenge is to develop mental health standards for workers and criteria for appraising the individual worker's mental health from time to time. Maybe by 1975 or '8O I'll be ready to go on a part-time basis. Margaret, after three separate retirements, is busy again teaching (medical statistics) at Northern Virginia Community College."
Sam Hutchins retired in June from his position as executive vice president of First Vermont Bank & Trust in Brattleboro. Sam is vice president and trustee of Vermont Academy and a director of Steamtown Foundation Inc., the Mecca of railroad buffs. May your holidays be merry and bright.
