Witnessing the third successive loss of the 1973 Big Green football team was highly disappointing to all the class members who were in Hanover for the Pennsylvania game on October 13. Of limited consolation was Jake Crouthamel's expressed optimism that this team will still prove to be a good one even though they are relatively inexperienced.

However, the balmy Indian Summer weather along with the spectacular fall foliage added appreciably to the afternoon and to the enthusiastic and friendly atmosphere of the class gathering after the game at the Norwich Inn. A total of 45 attended, including: Wes and Jan Beattie; Sam and Madeline Cunningham; Jeff and Bea Davis; George and Jean Drowne; George and Pauline Farrand; Mel and Ruth Katz; Whit and Ginny Kimball and their guests, Bob and Virge Beital; Bud and Katherine King; Nat and Mildred Leonard and their guests, Russ and Jean Gustin; Jack and Dorothy Manchester; Jack and Laura Masten; Bill and Libby McCombs and their daughter and son-in- law, June and Libby McCombs and their daughter and son-in-law, June and Alton Matinzi; John and Jean Meek; Bob Mitchell and his daughter, Valerie; Nick and Dot Nichols; Jud Pierson; Carl and Janet Rugen; Ev and Alice Shineman; Page and Marge Worthington; and Jack and Madge Wright.

The final report of the 40th Reunion Fund Committee, mailed by Wes Beattie under date of October 18, presents in interesting detail the results of the record-breaking giving on the part of 354 donors, totalling $162,406, as reported in this column for October. The gain of $109,928 (209%) over the previous year, representing 103% participation, is a great tribute to the Committee, the Agents and to all 354 donors. This was an outstanding performance in the best 1933 spirit, and is a very significant milestone in our on-going support of the College.

The Committee's Final Report also carries the important announcement of the appointment of Chet Thomson as the new Head Agent. Chet has had a very interesting and highly successful career in sales and allied positions. He is president of Thomson-Leeds Company, Inc., a New York Point-of-Purchase Advertising and Display Company, which he and Richard H. Leeds formed in 1957. Their clients include many leading advertisers.

Chet joined Calvert Distillers Company in 1940 and rose to sales promotion manager, a position he held from 1945 to 1949, when he was appointed director of promotion for both Calvert Distillers Company and Carstairs Distillers Company, both of which were wholly owned subsidiaries of Distillers Corp.-Seagrams Ltd. He left Calvert in 1951 to become vice president and sales manager of Einson-Freeman Company Inc., a position he held until 1957.

Along with his business successes, Chet has been active in, and chairman of, many fundraising drives for community, philanthropic and religious organizations.

Chet and Alice and their daughters Marianne, Suzanne and Ellen live at 19 Leather Stocking Lane, Scarsdale, N.Y.

Our special thanks to you, Chet, for your willingness to undertake this challenging and important assignment for the Class, after a tremendous new high under the stimulation of our 40th Reunion.

All class members are urged to read and give thoughtful attention to Jud Pierson's recent annual letter on the importance and advantages of the Bequest and Estate Planning Program to both the College and ourselves.

To each of you and yours - all best wishes for a Merry Christmas and a good year in 1974, during which we sincerely hope to hear from you.
