With elections over we are pleased to offer a Wah-hoo-Wah for Bob Straub's election as Governor of Oregon. Bob served eight years as State Treasurer and four years in the State Senate. His victory was particularly rewarding since he twice previously lost campaigns for Governor.

Way at the other end of the country, Norm Askey's wife Mimi, writes: "I have hereby joined the Legion of Wives who write news that their respective husbands never send to the Alumni Magazine. (A great mag, by the way.)" Her news included a couple of pictures (one of which may accompany this article), the word that Norm is still with American Standard (Plumbing and Heating Division) that the Askeys have been in Miami for 20 years and "like it hot," that they visited California and Hawaii last June and July, and of their six children Steve is a '76 at Dartmouth, Barbie (age 18) is at Appalachian State University, Boone, N.C., "Skeeter" (age 17) is a senior in high school, Mary (age 16) is a junior in high school, Bill (age 14) is a freshman in high school and, Jimmy (age 11) is going into 7th grade. As I compute it, the Askeys will have three in college at one time for several years running (a joy currently being experienced by your secretary).

We note from materials sent on by ChurchLeonard that Tom Gerber has been appointed to the Alumni Advisory Board to the Public Affairs Center at the College, and that Harry Tanzi, Hanover's honorary mayor, recently celebrated a combination 77th birthday and 54th wedding anniversary, which of course proves that Tanzi's beer has some salubrious effects.

"Doc" Fielding's book Pregnancy: The BestState of the Union is now in paperback which hopefully will not be the only version we can afford if Bill Seidman is successful in his new job as President Ford's economic-policy coordinator.

Other new jobs include: Jim Elleman as a senior vice president of First National State Bank of New Jersey, the state's largest commercial bank. Jim was formerly chairman and chief executive officer of Horizon Bancorp, in Morristown and chairman of the board of American National Bank & Trust of New Jersey, Horizon's principal member bank. Jim's new job is to head up First National's national division which serves major corporate accounts throughout the country. With luck and a good credit rating Jim may even visit you. Inciden- tally, we missed Jim and Shirley at the informal reunion this year. And down in Kingstree, S.C., Captain Walt DeLany (USN-Ret.) has been appointed the new director of the Williamsburg Regional Manpower Training Center. Walt was a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, and received an M.A. degree in Education from Stanford and a Ph.D. in College Administration from the University of Texas. During his tour in the Navy he was a coach in the athletic department at Annapolis, chairman of the modern language department, and assistant academic dean. After his retirement in 1969, he was in college administration in Texas, moving to South Carolina in July 1973 to work with the State Board for Technical and Comprehensive Education.

Herb Gordon of Richardson Hall fame writes that Dixie Daniels had John Koslowski as his guest last summer at the Taconic Golf Club (Williamstown, Mass.) Member Guest Tournament and that the Daniels/Koslowski twosome won the First Division. Since Herb was the tournament chairman for the event the win may not be so surprising. Herb is vice president and treasurer of Gordon & Sutton, Inc., a construction firm in North Adams, Mass. Herb writes that he is in his second year of a three-year stint as selectman in Williamstown and is also a member of the board of investment of the North Adams Hoosac Savings Bank and Taconic Golf Club. (This he refers to as slowing down.) Herb and Fran's oldest daughter Gail has been married for five years and has presented them with two granddaughters; their other daughter Marilyn is a senior at Elmira College and will be married next June.

That ends it for this month and since it is December, a Happy and Holy Christmas/Hanukkah to all.

The Norm Askeys' Miami swimming pool gets undergraduate use from vacationing '76including Frank Tezak, Steve Askey, Norm '43, Chuck Hostnik, and Peter Brooks.
