Football replaces baseball and turkeys (with wings) replace hamburgers and hotdogs. Since Thanksgiving and the beginning of the holidays are upon us, I have to bow to the spirit of the season . . . and refrain from dumping all over the Class of '72 for ignoring this scribe newswise. The column is short but so is my material.
I did receive a letter from Jim McKinney who has continued in the field of nuclear araments control with the Navy. Jim has become the reactor control officer and electrical officer aboard the U.S.S. George C. Marshall. He is responsible for electrical equipment and preventative maintenance aboard the nuclear vessel, as well as for monitoring the atomic pile - a position which I do not envy. In fact, Jim is well on his way to becoming a one-man nuclear attack force.
Jim has been visiting foreign ports and has become convinced that nuclear strength is a necessity both as a deterrent and as an inducement to detente.
Detente is a nice lead into political science which is the field in which Tom Downing received a master's degree in political science from Penn State in August.
Win Neuger was recently elected to the position of trust investment officer with Northwestern National Bank in Minneapolis Win joined the bank in 1973 soon after he graduated from Tuck.
Well, Bob Baird did it again. He is both the United States the World Naval Pentathlon champion. Despite giving other competitors a break by pretending to lose his oars from his oarlocks in the rowing competition, he crawled across the finish line first in the last event, the cross-country run, to win by 13 points. Probably the toughest break of the whole competition was the fact that it was held in Stockholm, Sweden, and Bob now knows that, quantitatively, at least, blondes do have more fun.
Bob will soon be eligible for discharge from the Navy and is considering organizing an export-import business on the West Coart. At the moment he is dealing in warm-up suits which would probably come in handy for those of us in the Class who have chosen to remain single.
On the class dues issue, I'll just mention that they are still due and that the $11 may be sent to Dave Friend whose address appears at the head of this column. Get them to Dave so that we nay continue to send the Alumni Magazine to all '72s. If we don't meet our quota, Little Dave and I will be driven to a life of crime and, as you all know, lawyers have a bad-enough name as it is.
At this writing the World Series is six games old, tied up three-three, and Ghort has chewed off three of the four legs on my T.V. stand. A Rose by any other name would still be obnoxious. . . .
