As we come into the Holiday Season, we are long on spirit but short on news. Nevertheless, as we look ahead to the new year, the Bicentennial, the election, our hopes and our aspirations, may the road rise up to meet you, may the wind be at your back, and may the Lord take a liking to you.

John Van Huyck wants to recommend the five-day Outward Bound course now being offered to Alumni in the New England area. Although he doesn't necessarily agree with all their philosophy, the five days he spent in August were well worthwhile - even to a non-outdcjors type like John. It was an excellent mental-physical challenge as well as a chance to do some things such as hiking, camping, rock climbing, an agility course, that can be both new and enjoyable. Physically, you can do everything there is to do if over a 30-day period you build up to a 16-minute time for a two-mile run which John says is not really that hard if you are conscientious about it. A few push-ups and pull-ups are also recommended; not for strength but just to renew acquaintance with some muscles you will need. Women can definitely handle it. John's group included two post-forty women as well as one who was suspect. Although he is a two pack a day smoker, he had absolutely no trouble with the firm no-smoking rule. The program is heartily recommended for anyone who wants to get out of the rut for a few days.

The nomadic family of Dave Halloran has finally settled down to become the Swiss Family Halloran. They're now residing in Verbier, Switzerland, at 1900 Meters. And only 60 meters from the main lift. Michael, 16, and Elise, 13, are still in school in the US. Tracy, 9, and Jenny, 4, are picking up French like they did German - like natives. Beverly is happy to be away from the noise and crunch that is Germany. Dave is still selling McDonnell Douglas airplanes in the European market.

Jim Penney has been appointed a vice president of Robwood Associates, Inc. in Nashua, N. H. They are an advertising, marketing, and public relations agency which Jim has been with for a few years. He will continue to serve as an account executive, but also as a member of the agency's plans board group. Earlier Jim had been with MPB in Keene, U.S. Steel in Cleveland, and served with the U.S. Army Counter-intelligence in Korea. Jim, Nancy, and three daughters live in Amherst.

Dave Stanley, vice president of insurance administration at Union Mutual was made president-elect of the American Association for Comprehensive Health Planning at the association's annual meeting in Seattle. A resident of Cumberland Foreside, Me., he is also president of Maine's health planning council. He will assume full responsibilities of the presidency of the association at its next annual meeting in 1976, and will continue as a member of its executive committee and hoard of directors.

Bob Poor writes that they're about to commence their third year in Europe, living in Brussels. He is marketing director for Rogers Corporation and travels extensively throughout western Europe. Daughter Cyndy, 22, is at the University of California at San Jose. She spent the summer in Europe running in major international track meets after she and her U.S. teammates won the '75 World Cross-Country title at Rabat, Morocco. She is one of the top U.S. women candidates competing for Olympic selection to run the 1500 meters next year at Montreal. Son Steve, 20, is playing his third year of varsity football as running back at Whitworth College, Spokane, Washington. Daughter Lisa, 13, is at boarding school at St. Stephens College in S.E. England where she is developing strong interests in horses, dramatics, and international friends. The Poors are in the Brussels phone book, only five minutes from the airport, and open the door for all '53's passing their way.

A joyous Holiday to everyone!
