Recent statistics compiled in front of the Late Show reveal that Bob McConnaughey's questionnaire achieved a five percent return in the first ten days. That should be a response rate to make even the "Mad Ave" types envious. For an alumni news writer it's a "Colt 45" experience, i.e., unique. The lengthier commentaries will be passed on to Bob for inclusion in his Newsletters while the career data will get relayed here.
The first return came from Larry Duffy who is living in Chestnut Hill, Mass., although working in municipal management for Brookline, Mass. I recall that Larry and his wife Merry hosted the reunion committee during one of their more productive planning sessions. In September he caught up with Denny Bekemeyer out in Seattle where Denny is practicing law.
The second reply came from Bob Koury who wanted to know how to reach Larry Duffy. Did you try Seattle, Bob? Anyway, the owner of a Boston Bull Pup named "Wrinklepuss" now lives in Herdon, Va. where he has established a homebuilding business called Koury/Tipton Homes. The company specializes in completing distressed projects for lending institutions. As I recall, Bob had second thoughts about the homebuilding business during the 1974 slump. This sounds like the way to ride a down market!
Ted Bracken, Chuck Carrie, Sven Karlen, and John Daily witnessed the wedding on October 4 of Bruce Wagner to Betsy Winslow, a kindergarten friend who disappeared for 25 years. The New York Times engagement announcement related that Betsy Winslow Wagner's great grandfather financed and built the Civil War vintage "Monitor." Bruce is still with Grey Advertising in New York after nine years. Right now he is a vice president and management supervisor.
Now that the Vietnam era is behind us, those of you seeking a job change and a chance for adventure on the high seas should stop in to see LCDR Steve Farrow. He is currently executive officer of Navy Recruiting for the Philadelphia Area. Another former Navy man by the name of Stu Keiller would like to hear from classmates living in the Baltimore or Washington area. Stu is moving his family to Columbia, Md., one of the best modern examples of a planned community. Once Stu settles in, it would be interesting to hear his comments on such a town arrangement. The reason behind Stu's move is a job change: From Profile Sports in West Lebanon to AMF Head Sportswear with product development responsibilities.
Jerry Putnam lives near Columbia in Potomac, Md., while putting in time with the U.S. Army. Jerry returned to the Washington area as a physician specializing in pulmonary medicine at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. Another classmate discovered in the Washington area is John McDonald of North Chevy Chase, Md. John is an assistant professor of medicine at Georgetown University Medical School where his students hopefully become enlightened on the study and treatment of cancer.
After a week of unusually balmy weather for November in New England, the thermometer dropped back to normal. With the sense of cold weather comes thoughts of snow and with snow comes skiing. Would any of you skiers like to arrange a date to meet at a given ski area, at a given location, at a set time? Send me your ideas now, and Bob or I can publish the particulars, say, in January. Maybe we can set a Rocky Mountain and an East Coast time and place!
It's been fun to hear from you. Keep up the habit!
