The holidays have come and gone all too quickly and our slogan could be: It's good to be alive in '75. A New Year's wish written by Goethe over a century ago bears repeating at this time:
"Health enough to make work a pleasure, Wealth enough to support your needs, Strength enough to battle with difficulties and overcome them, Patience enough to toil until good is accomplished, Charity enough to see some good in your neighbor. Love enough to be useful and helpful to others, Faith enough to make real the things of God, Hope enough to remove all anxious fears concerning the future."
Our warm weather classmates have flown to warmer climes. The rest of us shiver and shake, but some actually enjoy the cold up here in the North. Walks, for instance — those who can, with or without a cane. I'm sure Freddie Page enjoys the fine winter air of Hanover. Andy"Mopac" Comstock sent Christmas greetings to all and said, "I have bought a new apartment. Where there is life, there is hope." His address is 813 Rossmer Tower Number One, Leisure World, Laguna Hills, Calif. 92653. Sounds good, Andy.
A recollection of long ago: Grantland Rice paid a compliment to our own Dave Morey by calling him "Dave, the giant killer," following Dartmouth's football games with Middlebury, Harvard, and Yale. Dave later had the honor of being nominated to the Football Hall of Fame. Word has been received of the death of another classmate, James O. Jordan of Belmont, Mass., on November 27, 1974. Details at this moment are lacking, but the sympathy of the Class has been sent to his wife and family. Jim is survived by his wife, four sons, three daughters and 17 grandchildren. Let's face it. Our ranks are slowly diminishing. Time and tide wait for no one, so let's make the most of it with lots of good cheer.
Elmer Tucker writes that nothing exciting is happening as far as he is concerned. "Just plugging alone in the same old rut." That's it.
