It seems summer flew by: here we are looking forward to football. The season promises plenty of excitement and competition. With Watergate behind us and a new president at the helm we can breathe a little easier, albeit we are still in deep trouble. Plenty of talk, but little or no action. Inflation continues on it's merry way. A letter from "Howie" Byrnes which starts off" as follows: "Every time I read of a pole vault event I am reminded of you in the 1912 Olympics and how a material known as fibreglass has made you appear as a second rate performer - which I refuse to accept." Thanks for those kind words, Howie. The reason I am writing, continues Howie, "is the reference to me in the birthday notices in the April Alumni Magazine as 'Joe.' This happened once before. I was usually called 'Howie' after my middle name, HoweII. The 'J' stood for James which I never used." The 1913 Aegis confirms this and the record is set straight.

A letter from George Ingalls, '15 tells of the death of Ned Crawford's wife Sallie July 6 of this year. She died peacefully after an illness of several months, in La Grange Park, III.

John Remsen sent some interesting items about our 1913 widows most of which was covered in Tower Tidings. Dorothy Gately had just returned from a tour of Norfolk Island which is a five-hour trip from Sydney. John says that she undoubtedly holds the long distant record for writing. Frances Nutt, widow of YickNutt, has changed her address from Staten Island to Plainfield, N.J. She writes Johnnie that she is a clipping hound like him and so is her daughter Mary who lives in Kentucky on a farm which she bought near Claiborne where the famous "Secretariat" stands at stud. Dot Colchester, Norm Catterall's widow, writes that they have just returned from a lovely trip to the Hawaaian Islands. Mrs. H. Thorne King, widow of Nelson Gay has returned home after an interesting trip around the world.

Albert Kinoy of Putman Valley N.Y., died July 14 at the age of 83. Surviving him are his widow Sarah Jane, his two sons, Arthur and Ernest, four grandchildren and one great-grandchild. The Class sends deep sympathy to the family.
