Helen and John Birmingham of Daytona Beach were sorry to miss the Suffield reunion. Apparently their recent visit to children in New England didn't coincide with that event, but they will be in Hanover for our 50th. In case you've forgotten, that's June 6-8, 1980. WinStone has been elected president for three years of the International Federation of Modern Languages and Literature and recently attended the Federation's annual congress in Aix en Provence. Harold Kaplan (Carbondale) retired a year ago from chairing the Department of Physiology at Southern Illinois University, but a week later he was back on the faculty of the School of Medicine. Bernice and he "welcome any other '30 septagenarians who might make a wrong turn and find themselves in this region." Ed Meyers spent a couple of weeks in Hawaii on a five island tour: "Prior to my trip I attended a cocktail party given by Milt and Delia Fleischman for classmates in the vicinity of Santa Rosa. Other guests included Chuck and Dee Dee Faye, and Don and FrancesShaskan. In July went canoeing on the Russian River, an event planned by the northern California alumni. I was the stern man, with Bob Allen '33 up front and a friend as ballast. Dumped them all at the first bend, much to my mortification."
Most of these news items are a spinoff of Harry Condon's appeal for news and dues. Please keep him supplied with both. At $10 a head for the past ten years, 1930 has whipped inflation now. Jane and Bill Fieldcamp (Houston) spent three weeks in June on a motor coach tour rediscovering northwest U.S.A. and southwest Canada. This was an encore to a similar trip last year to the Northeast. Other travelers include the Shaskans to Hawaii, the Bowlens to Yugoslavia and Greece, the Chittims and Babs Allyn to Alaska with the Dartmouth-John Dickey group, the Coles to Japan for an international water congress and Annabel Day to Greece and Turkey. She works in Wayne, N.J., for a market research firm and continues to participate in a number of community activities in Montclair. Snub Poehler was back in action for a while this summer when he served as interim superintendent of schools in Wells, Me. More down east news:

We hope to shoot a lobster or two, show them the sunrise over Campobello, and perhaps have a hot buttered Eleazer's special in honor of the Class of '30." Bill Fenton: "Olive and I are leaving for Pasadena at the end of October. We shall be there for six months while I work at the Huntington Library on a fellowship awarded me with funds from the National Endowment for Humanities. HL has the largest collection of the printed Indian treaties of the eighteenth century, and I shall commence work on an edition of the treaties of the old Six Nations, which I shall continue with the Newbery Library of Chicago under the same auspices in June 1979. While on the West Coast I plan to look up classmates in the region."
Pat Patterson: "Just returned from five weeks' vacation and a family reunion at the cottage in Craigville, Cape Cod, which has been in the family since 1916. Had our fill of steamed clams, little necks, and lobster, and a great time with our grandchildren, whom we haven't seen in four years! Back to substitute work next week to pay for it! Despite Jarvis-Gann, inflation is making inroads on living in beautiful /expensive Los Altos."
In September, Eleanor and I had an enjoyable reunion with Margo and Si Chandler of Yarmouth Port at Dot and Frank Ryder's summer home in Woods Hole. We had a great day of reminiscing and updating.
Les Godwin '30 chats over tailgating goodies with Robin Young, co-host of WBZ-TV's"Evening Magazine" show, which featured Godwin as an inveterate footgall gameattender. Young and her camera crew spent the Yale weekend trailing aroundafter Godwin to tape the show, which was aired on Channel 4 on November 3.
