In spite of the fact that it was one below zero and the coldest day in New York in some eight years, your class president, John Rosenwald, managed to get together the largest class officer's meeting in the history of the Class in late January. The purpose of the meeting was a combined annual review and the first efforts toward our 25th Reunion (June '77). John will give a full report to the Class via the newsletter and, in fact, you should have it before you read this.

Other than the business efforts it was a good opportunity to visit with classmates from nearby and even from the West Coast. The distance award goes to Dick Bressler who flew in from Los Angeles. It would be nice to say he did this out of love for the Class, but, of course, he was also in the Big Apple on business. Dick is senior vice president of Atlantic Richfield and reports he and the family are enjoying southern California after many years in the East. They make their home in San Marino.

The New England area contingent should gel the quantity award, if not the quality. In addition to the class treasurer, Steve Parkhurst (we're in good shape), Jack Boyle, reunion chairman, Bill Breed, social chairman, Frank Logan, college class liaison (a title I have just created), and Bob Binswanger, class special project manager, also were on the scene.

Binswanger qualified as a New Englander now because he has just accepted a new responsibility as vice chancellor for Academic Affairs at the University of Maine. This is a great opportunity and we wish Bins the best of success. No word yet on when the family will be moving from Virginia.

Breed, by the way, reported on the class plans for the Harvard game this fall. It will, once again, be in Hanover and for the first time in memory it will not be the last weekend of October. This year the Harvard game will be on October 16 and will be part of a very big weekend on campus. Dartmouth Night has, as you know, been restored and will be Friday, October 15. Mark your calenders now for that event. Breed will provide all the facts later.

Back to the meeting. As part of our 25th Reunion the Class will publish a yearbook, as ah classes do. Manager of this project is Dick Watt, and, of course, he will be getting in touch with all of us for the gory details. Dick, by the way, is co-chairman of the project with Pete McSpadden who could not make the meeting. Dick joined the meeting for a progress report.

Two members of the class executive committee hail from the Philadelphia area and we were pleased that both Lou Zhener and Angus Russell were able to attend. Also, from the New York area members of the committee in attendance were Cyril Gsell, Roy Abbot, Cal Palits, and "Ceb" Benisch.

Last, and probably most important, was Jack Barclay, head agent, who flew in from St. Joseph, Mo. I would be less than candid if I did not report that considerable time was spent discussing Jack's responsibility and the College's need for our support.

The meeting was helped no end by the presence of Charlie Breed, Class of '51. Charlie was there as a friend and also as an officer of the College. His contribution was very valuable.

As you might expect, Rosie conducted an excellent meeting on behalf of all the Class.

During the meeting Bob Binswanger presented some ideas for a 25 year project for the Class and there was lively discussion on this subject. One of the ideas put forth was for a series of presentations by members of the Class in Hanover on areas of their expertise. Ironically, as we were discussing the details of this concepts, one of our classmates was in Hanover on almost exactly that mission.

Peter Vail, a senior research advisor for the Exxon Production Research Company, Houston, Texas, addressed an earth science seminar on the subject "Eustatic Cycles from Seismic Data for Global Stratigraphic Analysis." This lecture at the College is part of a series of 30 that Pete is giving under the sponsorship of the American Association of Petroleum Geologists.

To bring you up to date, after graduating from Dartmouth, Pete went on to get his M.A. and Ph.D. degrees from Northwestern University. After getting the latter degree in 1956 Pete joined Exxon Production Research as a senior research specialist. He was promoted to his present position in 1970.

Our final note for the month is not about a classmate, but a classmate's wife. Jeanne Ehinger, wife of Nels Ehinger, has recently been named as chairwoman of the Stamford (Conn.) Art Association Bicentennial show, "Portraits of America-Bicentennial Retrospect." Jeanne is an artist and has, among her credits, designed the book jacket for a recently published historical religious novel, Bridge Across theYears. Author of the book is Aline Noren Ehinger, Nels' mother. How about that for a nice family project.
