Before delving into Christmas card notes here you will recall Sam Dillon ran for Representative in the 4th Maryland Congressional District Democratic Primary last fall against a well-known financed opponent. He lost but the newsclips gave him much credit for hard cam- paigning which included door-knocking by son David and daughter Anita. Sam's best showing was in his own Anne Arundel county being only four percentage points behind. His over-all vote was surprisingly high against an adversary supposed to be a shoo-in with strong union and machine support. Sam says thanks to all who contributed and "even though not successful we feel our effort played an important role in the tremendous changes the primary brought to our county."

Hal Putnam's wife, Glendora, director of the Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination, was one of 14 attorneys from eastern United States taking a tour to South Africa to meet with lawyers to discuss accessibility of citizens to legal rights in the courts. The tour was organized by the Washington Bar Association and funded by the State Department. Eight were blacks and though they had no bad experiences they were prepared to test the rules of apartheid. She said there is no comparison between the legal systems here and there and the basic fundamental'rights we have come to expect in this country do not exist there.

To the cards. Esther and Fred Mayo along with Fess and Cal Eldred dwelt on how much they enjoyed their first fall reunion, the Mayos signed again for next fall. Art Ruggles apologized for being unable to give us any time when we visited him at Santa's Land due to the many moppets waiting for him, but that's the way it is most of the time. Polly and Don Dumont tell us daughter Linda is married and Sara working for the "Harold Cabot Advertising Company in Boston. Betty and Gib Reynolds regretted missing all our fall activities, hoping for next year. They ran into Nat and Will Brown at one of the colorful restaurants in Hyannis and the Browns stopped to see them before attending the theatre.

Looks like Lynn and Dana Prescott moved again. 4180 Rincon Circle, Palo Alto, where they are now only a ten-minute bicycle ride from his office in the Stanford Industrial Park. He's enjoying his employee relations work with Beckman Instruments and still active in squash, tennis, and golf. They are fixing up their new "adobe abode" which has a 45-foot pool, many fruit trees, and a high wall all around it. They included a family picture showing off their three ultra gorgeous daughters-in-law. Meg and BobAylward's annual newsletter of the year past told of son David's marriage, Mike's Dartmouth foreign study program in Europe, and that Bob is now in his seventh year as executive director of the National Council for Community Services to International Visitors (COSERV). He had two long trips through the West plus regional conferences in Los Angeles and Minneapolis, now gearing for their March conference at the Mayflower in Washington.

Rachel and Fred Laughton are a twosome like most of us with the kids gone. Fred remains with United Engineers and Constructors but now at their Westmont office instead of in the field at the Salem Nuclear Station. Rachel went to work for Manpower last year at the Dupont plant in Gibbstown for two weeks and is still there a long two weeks. Sherry and Al Bryant's review of their interesting year of multiple activities makes us feel like we've joined the "rocking chair" group. She had a six-month bout with pneumonia followed with a complicated seige while in the States from the side effects of the medication. OK now. We chided the Bosworths by phone for no note. He said Martha wrote but since he was in charge of "stuffing and sealing" he probably sent it to someone else. Good boy! Jean Breitinger said Bill has added a few wordsto his vocabulary and may be coming home to life if she can find help. Nursing home costs are up, his progress is slow as the prognosis remains about the same. Leeand Russ Stearns have put their country home, up for sale intending to move back to Hanover or closer at least. Their newsletter tells of the trip to Poland with pictures of that, their children, and grandchildren aborning.

Our thanks for their cards to the following - next year with notes please: Ashers, ParkJohnstons, Steve Cochranes, Erdmans, Falions,Ekins, Ronny Browns, Hinmans, Berensons,Frank Robin, Polly McLane, Jane Handrahan, and Cele Barrett.
