As I write this on April 1, spring finally seems to have won its battle to drive off the wind and cold of recent days. The tennis courts will be crowded from now until fall, if the weather cooperates, and the Fletchers are looking forward to another smashing (I guess that's a joke, son) season of double faults and wobbly backhands.

Meanwhile, in the area of class news, we have encountered a mini-recession of sorts. Mail has been light, but there are a couple of items of note.

For Paul Miller it's tennis season all-year long. He has been teaching for almost six years at the Clearwater, Fla., campus of St. Petersburg Junior College. His busy schedule includes teaching courses in management, finance, and accounting, coordinating the American Institute of Banking educational program at the College and, in addition, running a consulting company which sells and leases bank and insurance company management systems.

Paul and wife Joanne have a daughter who has graduated from V.P.I, and a son and two daughters attending the University of Florida. And Joanne has earned a master's degree and is teaching and working with mentally retarded youngsters in Tampa.

A change of address notice from the College is intriguing. It reports that Frank Wuerfel - last known address Bernardsville, N.J. - has relocated to Houston, Tex. (Olympia Drive). Details may be forthcoming in a future column.

As we are all aware, our hard-working class agent, Alan Epstein, is caught up these days with the job he does so well - supervising the class' Alumni Fund Drive effort. As Al points out, the '75 drive is a real challenge for obvious reasons. But he shares the total confidence of other head agents that the drive will succeed - and that members of the Class of '47 will come through generously, as they have in the past. Let's not let him down. If you haven't done so already, please get those much-needed pledges and donations in to Alan - and at the same time let us know what's new with you.

As noted in this month's "Rouse" column, Dan Carroll has been elected president of Chicago's Gould Company which manufactures electrical, electronic, and industrial products, $740 million worth in 1974. He joined the company as executive vice president in February 1972, after 17 years as a management consultant with Booz, Allen and Hamilton. From '50 to '54 Dan was a management engineer with the Navy Department in Washington.

George and Carolyn Bingham were among those who attended the Greater Boston Alumni Association dinner in Newton on April 2. And they saw a number of other '47s there: Townesand Jean Harris, Lansing Reed, Dick Shribman,Dave Squire, Hugh Chapin and Tom Leggat. George reports that he's been working for WDCR in New England in both sales and advisory capacities for the past couple of months.

From out Michigan way, comes word that John Murray has been promoted to assistant to the general manager of Chrysler Marine Products. And more good news is that his business hasn't suffered as the automotive business has; in fact sailboat sales are better than ever.
